Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 BIOS 3703 with all OROMS/LAN/VGA updated
#11
(03-01-2015, 01:10 AM)ZzBloopzZ Wrote: I have modified the official 3703 with the latest UBU tool, but with Intel RST OROM v12.9.0.2006 instead. v12.x is optimized and designed for Intel 6 series chipset. IE: Better performance and stability for Z68 motherboard over v13.5.0.2164 which SkebbZ used.

Fully tested by flashing my self using Asus EZ Flash 2 utility which is built-in to the BIOS. Be sure to reset to defaults after flashing, save and quit. Power off computer for 10 seconds, power back on and then go back into the BIOS to re-configure everything.

Download modified BIOS from HERE

OROM Versions:

Intel IRST RAID/SATA OROM: 12.9.0.2006

Intel VBIOS OROM: 2170

Intel LAN OROM: 1.5.61

Marvell SATA OROM/EFI: 1.0.0.0038 / 1.0.0.0034

JMicron SATA OROM: 1.07.28

Matching Drivers:

- Be sure to match with latest Intel RST v12.x driver. Currently it is v12.9.4.1000 WHQL. If drives are in AHCI mode, then no need to install the bloat RST software. Just install drivers only (typically in the F6 folder) via Device Manager. More info here.

- Use latest Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver. Currently it is v10.0.30.1054. Do not use v10.0.38.1036, since this is the full MEI driver package and includes packages that are not needed for this motherboard.

Other Updates:

- Update the MEI firmware, after every BIOS flash. Currently it is v8.1.52.1496, found here. Before flashing the firmware, you will need to have the MEI driver installed first so that it can communicate properly.

- Update the Intel 82579V LAN Gbe firmware. Instructions here. This just needs to be updated once, since Asus EZ Flash 2 does not update the Gbe region in the BIOS chip.

- Update the ASMedia 104x USB 3.0 firmware. Instructions here. This has greatly increased USB 3.0 stability for me. I used to have numerous problems with my system crashing/freezing when plugging in certain USB 3 devices to my front USB 3.0 ports. Updating firmware made it totally stable/reliable! Be sure to match with latest ASMedia 104x drivers. Currently they are v1.16.23.

Latest drivers/firmware can typically be found here.

Thanks, man.

I knew about UBC Tool, but did't know about the "Other Updates", except Gbe firmware.

I flashed the lastest MEI firmware and ASMedia 104x USB 3.0 firmware - all works good Smile

Your info was very useful, thank you so much!

I have a strange problem ever since I installed Win8, and I am now having the same issue on Win10. Mechanical hard drives sometimes shut down for no reason, often during patching a game or other intensive tasks. Only way to get it back is to shut down fully or enter sleep mode and wake again...

Tried most drivers and stuff, no change :|

EDIT: I forgot to mention, this happens on both the marvell controller and the intel one.

Fantastic, really appreciate that you built this.

I also updated the peripheral firmware per your advice... I didn't realise that some of them you needed to 'reupdate' every flash!

station-drivers has a slightly more current version of the ASMedia 104x firmware ASMedia 104x firmware which I tried and it works fine. You still need their drivers in Windows 10...

If only I could find RAlink drivers that worked in Windows10...

Hey ZzBloopzZ!

I've been using your updated bios on the previous page for over a year and it really made my system snappy.  Thanks!  I just wanted to write and say that there are recently updated firmware for the Intel MEI (v8.1.70.1590) and Intel LAN OROM (v1.5.85) and maybe some others.

Since our P8Z68s are aging a bit, it would be great if you could make one more master BIOS with the very latest (last?) firmware/microcode updates included.  Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
