Hello,
I am looking for a BIOS mod to bypass/remove the infamous whitelist check.

Notebook: Lenovo B490
BIOS (details by AIDA64): Phoenix EFI, version H1ET85WW(1.23), dated 04/15/2014
Original BIOS: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products...s/DS032260
Target device: IntelĀ® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (Model: 7260HMW) (ID: 8086 08B1 8086 4070)
Dump of "FPT_BACKUP-BIOS.exe": attached

Have a nice day and thanks in advance!

Well, in those two days summing around 20 hours of research and work, I have managed to do it myself.

I had zero previous knowledge on BIOS modding and was very scared to brick my notebook, but I triple checked everything I could and it worked fine on first try.

Thanks for everyone, most of the information on how to do this was found here in the forums; I just had to "adjust" some information because some tutorials and procedures used old programs/methods.

Now I can finally go out of my cave and see the sunlight again.

Cheers!

Thank you very much for your disposition, but in my last reply I stated that it is no longer needed as I ended up doing it myself.

Anyway, as requested and in case someone wants to see how it was done, I have uploaded the source BIOS ("BIOSBAKK_64.ROM"), the resulting BIOS ("BIOSBAKK_64[PATCHED].ROM"), and some of the intermediate files here: http://rghost.net/8SkwfCytv

In my case, the whitelist was in the module "LenovoWmaPolicyDxe.efi" (GUID: 79E0EDD7-9D1D-4F41-AE1A-F896169E5216).
(Identify it by looking for the unicode string "1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in")

The "[MZ]" file was not really extracted using Andy's Phoenix Tool, it is simply the "[pe32]" (usually the first section of a module) without the extra header, so that it can be successfully identified and loaded with "Hex-Rays IDA Professional" for assembly analysis and modification.

The modifications made with IDA Pro were saved in "MZ_DIFF.dif", so that the patches can be hex edited in the "[MZ]" file. Then, after patching it, put back the header to recompose the "[pe32]". With it, all that is left is to replace the original "[pe32]" with the patched one in Andy's tool clicking the "Replace" button.

Now, create a bootable USB stick with pure MS-DOS, put the flasher files and the resulting BIOS from Andy's tool (renamed "bios.bin") in it, restart the computer, boot from it, run "Flash.bat", and pray.

...or try requesting it! Big Grin
