add vt6421 sata rom to ibm/lenovo phoenix bios 4 rel 6
#1
Hi all,

Trying to add an optional sata controller vt6421.rom http://www3.nf.sympatico.ca/k.kenny/6421...21v431.rom to a ibm netvista 8305 pheonix 4 rel 6 bios http://www3.nf.sympatico.ca/k.kenny/24jz55usa/24J955A/$image24.usf so it will boot from sata drive

I've tried using PBE under winxp but it always comes back with errors in size and i've tried using phnxdeco/prepare/catenate but when rebuilding it comes back with errors, and even when trying to flash it says that there are error and refuse to flash.

Any help would be much appreciated

newbie Smile Thanks! kk

just curious here, but are you using a sata addin card to run sata drive on this system? if so the case may be here that if the motherboard bios dosen't have an option in the boot device list in the system bios to boot from a bootable addin card then it's not going to work regardless. second idk what you are trying to accomplish injecting a different controller rom into the bios for if your using an addin card. i am supprised you didn't brick your mobo.
i google your system and it says nothing about supporting sata. so i am guessing it's and addin card. if the addin card is installed and the drive is showing up in windows or dos. then the card is functioning properly. the next step is go into the bios setup. and somewhere in there you should find and option to change the boot order of which devices and in what order your mobo will search for a OS. in that option if it doesn't give you and option for a bootable addin card all i can say is it is time to upgrade.
sorry and I hope this helps! thx

Hi there, yes it is an addon pci sata card, the ibm netvista 8305 only has ide and I wanted to use a sata drive that I have, it is seen in windows but not in the bios, only boot options are removable/hd/cd-dvd/network (has onboard lan) I was hoping to add the 6421 sata card bios to the mother board bios to be able to boot.

there was one person i found that has done it but I have not been able to contact him, http://forums.mydigitallife.info/archive...f5277384f1 and he also posted here on this forum http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-ne...light=6421

was hoping either to add it or replace the onboard lan boot. the OP says that he has to not have any boot item selected in order for the sata card to work which is fine.

As for bricking it it would not accept the bios upgrade do to wrong checksum?

Whenever I try with PBE I get errors usually wrong ram size. not enough room bioscod4.rom module not saved

Thank you for the reply, kk

from what i am reading that is some scary stuff they are doing first off.
not ever mobo does a checksum scan before flashing. and second the reason your having problems is PBE is basically telling you that after you insert the sata card bios into the rom, it causes the mobo bios rom file size to jump beyond what the mobo bios chip can physically hold. what i would suggest is finding a mobo with these features and steal the option roms from that bios. look for these things to be the same to help narrow down the search. hope that helps. let us know and thx
cpu, chipset, bios type.

Quote:ok i managed to boot on the sata card... the thing to do was to set the first boot device in the mobo bios to an unexistant ide channel and disabling the second and third boot device... the sata card is used to boot only as last resort by the mobo. So im happy that no hacking is needed there.

thanks all the same for your attention!

Did you give this a try?
