Flashing this bios will not change the board from a 1464 to a 1564/1764. I recall the 1464 not having a numpad so I'm not surprised that it doesn't work. I think this needs modification to the EC but I have no idea how to make those mods myself.

Aeny: Thanks for your kind reply. I'm struggling last 1 week since the vendor gave me a wrong Motherboard and he returned with another 1464 mother board when I asked for replacement. Can I desolder the NVRAM and fix in the new motherboard(I dont have a wave soldering iron also because it looks very risky. Originally I had display problem I replaced the display and the new display "buggered up" my original 1564 mother board. I was trying to overwrite the keyboard mapping from OS, but no luck. But I want to use num pad because I need to enter lots of numeric data for my job. I think I have to go for a usb keyboard instead.

Hmm odd, are you sure that the screen buggered the board? Normally if it is a 40 pin LVDS 720p display then it should work. Perhaps I would suggest that you try a new LVDS cable before going the difficult route of soldering things.

I've tried swapping bios chips this way once and destroyed two boards in the process, it's not an easy feat to pull off.. I think nvram and ec chip are not the same. I think you need the ec chip as that will control the keyboard, but please double check this info since this is just a guess on my part.

Mr. Aeny: Once again thanks for your reply. This problem occurred about 2 months back. I carefully observed the mother board booting but no display. I found FDS 6298 was physically charred. I dont know how. I thought it was the reason and I ordered for FC FDS 6298 - no luck(this FDS IC is heating up) - perhaps I did a manual soldering - not good though. I think the board doesnt get 3.3 V_RUN. I am not going to try swapping memory. For me Rs 5000/- is a big money to play for research! Thanks any way for your advice. I havent tried that LVDS cable stuff. My old mother board is working very well. --Boscar

"Lastly, is anyone interested in a BIOS that overclocks the 4330m?? since I have the board sitting on my desk right now I might as well do some work on it and make some more users happy."

You never happened to do this, did you? I have a 1764 with a 640m and a 4330 GPU that I acquired recently and brought back to health. It still runs well once I reflowed the RAM slot solder joints, especially in Linux, but I'd love to get a little more graphics performance out of it.

By the way, your posts on this forum have helped me a lot in getting this machine going again, so even though most of them were years ago, thank you.

I did not end up doing this as I was not very interested in the older 4330 boards, and more in the 5450's. I have also had to move a couple of times so had to get rid of the boards, still got my trusty old 1564 though.
Anyways.. I'm sure you can find a way to overclock it via software on whichever Linux distro you're running.

From what I recall UEFI is not available at all on the 1564's, and only became an option on the following model (5010), which does not use a Phoenix BIOS anymore. It's been years since I looked at this so I can't guarantee that this information is accurate.

Kind regards,
Aeny
