ASUS P5ND2 SE adding one CPU support
#1
Hey guys,

Is there any way to add Intel QX6700 CPU support to ASUS P5ND2 SE (www.asus.com/Motherboard/P5ND2_SE/ )?
The support site does not list it as a supported CPU for the current motherboard, though it does support Intel Core 2 and X6800, which would suggest that there should be support for Intel Core 2 Extreme CPUs.

Thank You

P.S. I've attached the latest BIOS version from ASUS support site.

Anyone?

Please help and if there is no way to do it, just say so I wouldn't bother anymore.

CPU ID for QX6700 is 06F7h (see http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SL9UL.html). Microcode info for your BIOS shows the following (via CBROM).

Also, this guy appears to be using the similar Core 2 Quad Q6600 on his P5ND2: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthr...p=11078061

Evidence suggests that it is already supported. But don't take my word for it (I will not be held liable if it's not Smile)

Hi there,
Thnx for any reply Smile
The thing is that the motherboard will start with QX6700, run perfectly well up to Windows boot (complete) and do anything needed with correctly but no OS recognizes the 4 cores and "sees" only 2, meaning the MB doesn't(?) support 4 cored CPU's the proper way (displaying and running all 4 cores). The guy in the forum displays his stats showing all 4 cores in use.
I'll try speaking with him, maybe he knows something about this all.

You're quite lucky it boots at all. I searched in more detail, and found that the chipset is an nForce4 Ultra. This chipset doesn't 'support' the QX6700 (see http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-NVIDIA_(ch...ntel).html). This 2 core limitation is likely a known one for the chipset and is the reason why the quad core chips are listed as 'not supported'. Unfortunately, no bios modification is going to solve a hardware limitation.

Hi there iPatch,
Pity it won't work with the BIOS (thought there might be a trick or two left there to do)..
Thanks for the help! Very much appreciate it!
