Acer V3-771G (Forgotten BIOS password)
#1
Hi @ all,

I recently purchased an Aspire V3-771G and stupidly forgot my BIOS (Insyde) password that I entered (late) one evening.
To add to my problems, I also cannot boot from a CD/DVD as this was also disabled in the BIOS, lol

I´ve downloaded the latest BIOS for my system from Acer, and have tried messing around with the .ini file to clear password/ clear CMOS without any luck.

I also don´t receive an error notification (number) after trying to enter a PW three times, just a black screen.

Is there any way to reset my password without actually opening my laptop and shorting the jumpers?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I have a laptop Acer V3-771G-53218G75Makk with stock BIOS. I set up a BIOS password long time ago, but unfortunately I forgot to write it down, and now I can't remember it. So now I am in trouble, cause I need to access the BIOS to format the PC and I am unable to.

I already tried to clear the BIOS password following the steps described on the "Service Manual" for this laptop (please see attached file):

"Chapter 5

Steps for Clearing BIOS Password Check

If users set BIOS Passwords (Supervisor Password and/or User Password) for a security
reason, BIOS will ask the password during systems POST or when system enters the BIOS
Setup menu. If it is necessary to bypass the password check, short the HW Gap to clear the
password by performing the following steps:

1. Remove power from the system.
2. Remove HDD, AC and Battery.
3. Disconnect the RTC Battery (Figure 5-3).
4. Locate the RTCRST# jumper.
5. Use an electric conductivity tool to short the two points of the RTCRST# jumper.
6. Plug in AC, keeping the RTCRST# jumper shorted.
7. Press Power Button until BIOS POST is finished, then remove the conductivity tool from
the RTCRST# jumper.
8. Restart the system. Press F2 to enter BIOS Setup menu.
9. If there is no Password request, BIOS Password is cleared.
10. If a password is requested, repeat Steps 1 through 9."

I did exactly as described above, but with no sucess. The only doubt I have regarding these steps, is that there is not one but two RTCRST jumpers (JRST2001 & JRST2002) and I'm not sure which one, or if both of them, has to be shorted at the same time.

Does anyone know how to sucessfully clear the BIOS password on this laptop, or does anyone know of any other wayaround to get rid of the password check (like flashing the EEPROM, or something)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your replay.

Cn you please clarify ? What does "FPT" & "SPI" mean ?

Am I forced to take the laptop to a technical service store to solve this issue, or can I do it by myself at home?

best regards

I followed the instructions. The USB Stick blink about 10 sec. The fan is still running for about 1 min. after this minute the laptop shuts down (dont restart). If i turn the Laptop on i get the same screen "No Bootable Device. Hit any Key" or "Enter current password" if I want to open the BIOS menu

Is it possible to modify the BIOS via Live Linux? I could boot it via CD...but i have no idea what to do next...

EDIT

I started Linux Mint - so i got some Information of my BIOS
