Does Acer Aspire 1680 / Travelmate 4000 BIOS have hidden menus?
#1
Hi. I'm trying to find out if Acer Aspire 1680 (ATi) / Travelmate 4000 (ATi) Phoenix BIOS has hidden menus, but i have no clue where to start. I'm new to BIOS modding, i have just successfully added SLIC 2.1 to my custom BIOS (with battery and 48-bit LBA mods) for my laptop, posted at mydigitallife. I have no problem in trying any mods you can think of, because i have ACER crisis disk and USB floppy drive.

Reason: all 3 USB ports of my friend's computer (same model as mine) don't work, he gets BSOD when anything is inserted. It's a real hardware problem, check this topic at tomshardware, from Hellboy's experience its a bad mofset. I got him a PCMCIA/USB2 adapter, it also gives him BSOD with mouses, printers, gamepads, but not with pen drives (low amperage?).

I'm hopping there may be a hidden USB menu in BIOS that can be unhidden, so i can disable the USB ports from BIOS and hope that's enough to disable USB voltage, so at least a mouse can be connected to the PCMCIA/USB2 adapter without a BSOD...

Link for the original BIOS, and Link for the custom BIOS (battery and 48-bit LBA mods) and custom BIOS with SLIC 2.1.

there are alot of menus under the hidden INTEL ADVANCED tab , but i think i doesn`t contain options for usb.........i haven`t looked deeply into it .
i will unlock the intel tab then you can check all options you want .

Thanks! If you could, work on the custom BIOS with SLIC 2.1, it's the one i am currently using because of all 3 mods it has Wink

Hi AHMED, were you able to unlock anything in the custom BIOS from the first post?

i have looked deeply into your bios yesterday and found that all hidden menus are empty and arenot linked to any options ............. only few thermal options can be unlocked and linked to any menu .

you can search for options using phoenix bios editor and you not even find virtualization or AHCI .
also , there aren`t any USB options as all menus are empty and aren`t linked to any options as well as there are no options to link .
i can unlock thermal options and other few options like native IDE if you want .

Thanks for taking a look, there's no need to take it any further. That means there is no BIOS based solution for my friend's USB problem. I'll try uninstalling the USB ports in Windows and only install the PCMCIA->USB2 adapter drivers to see if i can successfully connect anything other than a pen drive without BSOD'ing. Thank you once again for your time.
