Inspiron 531 - Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Support
#1
Hey, first-time poster here.
I have a question regarding the current BIOS I am using, which is version 1.0.7. I want to know if this particular version supports an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1 Ghz (Brisbane) processor. I already know that the latest update supports this particular processor, but I don't want to go through a BIOS update unless it is absolutely necessary.
I've attached a backup of my BIOS.

Well im sorry to say we cannot disassemble the Dell files to view the modules contained within it.

However , you can always drop the CPU in and see if it works. If it doesnt , perform the BIOS Update from Dell.

Even if it didnt work and we ended up modding it in any way , you would be facing a BIOS Flash anyway.

Best of luck! - Flashing direct from the manufacturer usually goes without any problems , just dont look at the PC for 5 minutes and make sure you DONT have a power cut!

Well the latest rev is 1.0.13 which says support for new CPUs, so theres that bu generally if athlon 64s boot now a 6000+ should be no different, assuming its the 89W model.

Also 1234s282, the Dell Inspiron was an Award BIOS so we can Tongue

Thanks, guys. I'll probably put the CPU in, see how it goes. I'm fairly confident it'll work. Another thing is that the BIOS installers on the Dell site for this model don't support 64-bit systems, so if I update the BIOS, I'll have to do it manually.
Upgrading Dell systems are just a real pain in the behind, you know? Rolleyes

Woops Tongue i forgot the Inspirons had Award bioses - We managed to unlock them at one point , there was lots hidden but the mods were very unstable - 100% failure rate :S
