Microcode update for HP XW4400?
#1
Hi Guys,

I wonder if you can help.

I have an HP XW4400 with bios version 2.07 (last ever)

I have installed a Core 2 Quad Q6700 but I get an error message that a microcode update is required. Is it possible to update the microcode in the HP bios?

I have a microcode update file for the XW4600 which is a very similar motherboard but of course it will not run on the XW4400.

Would appreciate any advice, I have attached the Bios and the microcode update file.

Thanks

Attached Files
.bin   7d7_0207.bin (Size: 1 MB / Downloads: 40)
.bin   U7F_0114.BIN (Size: 64 KB / Downloads: 63)

Have you solved the problem with your Quad 6700? I have read that the latest BIOS update have the most recent CPU microcode updates...
I have the same workstation and I had plans to buy the same processor.

Hi Guys,

Is there someone who can put the microcode for the Q6600 in the HP XW4400 bios?
I cannot find the modded bios on internet or do it myself.

thanks

Tell S-spec of your CPU. And post screenshots of first (CPU) & third (Mainboard) tabs of CPU-Z.

I'm looking for that fix also.  The Q6600 works great other than the 1801 microcode error right after post.  Tried using cbrom195 tools and the like and no-go.  What is in the HP bios.rom file?  Anyone able to update the microcode or hex edit the bios to snuff out the error message at boot?

Download this file and extract all files into bootable USB stick with DOS.
Boot from USB stick with DOS and run FlashBin.exe. Make a foto with the result on the screen to post here.
Reboot and make BIOS backup by Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0. I need to see it.

Excellent.  Problem solved.

Executed the FlashBin.exe and updated the BIOS.  The Microcode update error is gone.  How did you create that?  Would you mind sharing your knowledge.

Do you still want a copy of the BIOS?

Great news! No, BIOS backup isn't needed.
I've taken 786D BIOS Family Processor Microcode Update with the microcode for seven CPUID and modified it.
Add [Solved] to header of this topic. You aren't a topic starter. Sad
Please post new topic in Confirmed CPU Support Upgrades with attached microcode mod.

Hi DeathBringer,
Your message's method on 03-30-2016 in this topic for solving the "1801 microcode error" whether can both work for the CPU Q6600 and Q6700 on XW4400 without problem. I wanna upgrade the CPU with a Q6700 on my XW4400. I appreciate very much for hearing from you. Thanks !
