No boot devices in boot menu
#1
Sad
Hi all,
sorry for my bad English (I'm italian)...

I bought my laptop (Samsung NP300E5C-S08IT) with preinstalled windows 8 and I created another partition on which I installed Elementary OS (Ubuntu based distro), then from windows I used EasyBCD to modify the boot order but I accidentally deleted the entries of cd and usb boot. Now in the bios priority menu are all entries except ElementaryOS but it doesn't work. I opened the door of ram and I have shorted out the pins to reset but the boot menu hasn't changed, only the settings have been resetted. Now I can't start anything because the elementaryOS does not work. What can I do????

Hi same boat as you are in

got a similar one: NP300E5C-A0dZA,
let me guess you tried upgrading the hard drive?

I did and this is exactly what it did initially,
if your upgraded Hard drive is more than 5400RPM in speed it wont work in this model,

there is a BIOS update that updates the BIOS to pick up the more common 7200 RPM drives, you can download it off the samsung website directly.

but be careful: if your NOT running win 8 on your PC and you disable secure boot and Enable UEFI your in for a load of trouble, as many forums will attest,

all I can say is keep your original hard drive safe, if you do run into the dreaded UEFI boot of death you will need it to claim warranty from samsung as this model is prone to being an expensive paperweight.Wink
