P6T with 2.2TB+ RAID support
#1
Hello everybody !

I am new here. I searched in this forum for an answer with no success, but if there is, forgive my newbieness Smile

I've just received my two new WD RED 3TB, and want to create a RAID 1 on my Asus P6T mobo. Detected as 746GB in IMR ...

Couple of hours later, I had tried a lot of solutions with no real success ... Bios updated : Bios ASUS P6T

I saw this :

http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-As...408-modded

And this :

http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-As...0-RAID-mod

But it seems to need IMR 10.1.X.X to support 3TB HDD. I also read about 64K limit for this mobo, but not sure to understand all ...

I don't have the skills to try doing the job myself.

It will be really nice if somebody could help me (maybe just to say "not possible" Smile ) !

More information on my configuration :

- Mobo Asus P6T (classical, with no "Deluxe" or SE")
- Non-RAID HDD for OS (W2K8 R2)
- 2x 3TB WD RED
- CPU I7-920
- Poor VGA card, no SLI / CrossFire
- No use of JMicron
- Use of Realtek

Thanks a lot !

I have the exact same problem! I bought two WD 3TB RED drives, hoping to put them into a RAID 1 configuration, but the [censored] P6T motherboard doesn't support 3TB drives in the Intel RAID!

I've gotten around it by using software RAID provided by Windows, but whenever Windows closes unexpectedly it has to resynch the whole drive, which takes days and slows down the entire computer very badly!

I'd really like to use the Intel RAID, if it's possible. I'm happy to try and mod the BIOS myself if someone can point me in the right direction for instructions to perform the mod.

I have the Asus P6T Deluxe V2. I modded the BIOS to contain the Intel OROM 10.1.0.1008. Here are my findings:

1) If you hook any 3TB or 4TB drives to the Intel controller set in RAID mode in the AMI BIOS, they do NOT even show up in the list of devices in the CRTL + i Intel OROM configuration screen. Meanwhile, any 2TB or lower devices do show up.

2) If you ONLY hook up 2x 3TB or 4TB drives on Intel ports 1 & 2, then you do NOT even get the CRTL + i menu option pop up.

3) You CAN access & use the full size of a 3TB or 4TB drive when the Intel controller is set to AHCI or RAID mode using Windows Disk Management - just be sure to set GTP mode if you want to use it as full size unpartitioned.

4) I can't get a higher version of the Intel OROM in this BIOS because the binary code size of 10.5, 11.x OROM and so on is much larger, and apparently I am too stupid to figure out how to make space in the ROM to insert it. Every time I try, I have to recover my mobo from scratch.

So, conclusion, I think what you want to do is not possible using the Intel controller.

If anyone knows how to fit the bigger OROM in these Asus P6T <whatever version> BIOS, mayby you can be so kind as to link to some description how to do it...

Did anyone have any success solving this with the PT6 SE board?

I wonder if anyone tried to use a PCI-e to SATAIII controller card to connect a larger drives (3Tb and up) to the ASUS P6T and if it did work!?

Following something from a different forum that I found and maybe of help:

Hi,

Hope someone sees this post,

I have a P6T Deluxe motherboard, with the latest BIOS. I am looking at adding a Western Digital 4TB hard drive as a storage drive. Will there be any issues. I have 2TB drives at the moment as storage, but need more space. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Thanks

Brett

Hi Brett..

You should be OK with that drive for storage.. See if you can use Disk Management to set the drive with GPT...

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...s.10).aspx

If you can't get anywhere with GPT, then the Asus Disk Unlocker may work for you..
