[SOLVED] - GA 945GM-S2 and 45-nm CPU stuck at 6x
#1
I have a friend that really needs this cpu to work with his motherboard(revision 1.0 if it matters), He bought it, following advice, and then realized it wasn't compatible. I don't know if it's possible, but I thought I should at least try for his sake.

The link to the motherboard bios: http://us.test.giga-byte.com/Support/Mot...eType=BIOS&FileID=12954

The desired CPU support is for the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

As for a motherboard with the same chipset and the desired support i believe this will do: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=5&s=8&m=TS100-E5/PI4&os=27&hashedid=STBUpwIjyWvw2wfC

Bios 204 and up has support. I believe I found the chipset and they were the same, but you may want to double check that as I don't mess with BIOS's often.

I believe the chipset is Intel X38 & 3200/3210

Thanks a lot for any help you can offer

Hi,

I own a Gigabyte GA945GM-S2 rev1 Board, and my old Pentium D 915 had a problem getting too hot - so i bought a new intel E5800. But unfortunately the CPU is not directly supported - but assumed to work. So my CPU is working with only 1,2 GHz than with 3,2 GHz => the very low multiplier of 6x is automatically used (low frequency mode - LFM) and not the one with 16x which would be normal for full speed (or also known as high frequency mode - HFM). So what can I do to modify the BIOS to support this setting - or can anyone help?

Confused

Many many thanks in advance!

mcsHammer

just for information, it is an HTPC with digital cable and digital sattelite receivers installed and it is running the whole day, so I cannot switch to the pentium d as it gets tooo hot and system shutdown randomly - this is now fixed Wink with a muuuuuuch to low CPU speed.

thanks!

Can someone give support to add CPUID settings for the E5800 - or has anyone done such a mod before?!

thanks for your help!

ok - other question - does anyone know how to mod a bios with to acomplish cpu support with right settings for it?

can you imagine to run a bluray 12GB file on an 1,2GHz dual-core - its quite at the end of its power... and there would be more 2GHz to run - the board supports NO OC at all as I specially bougt the board of its Intel HOME certificate whicht means stable 7/24 HTPC capability and high stability - but no other possibilities ;(

many thanks to all willing to help with a small hint solving a big problem Wink

THANKS!

I hope someone can help to fully enable E5800 cpu, here some needed information:

Mainboard information, types of Core2Duo as well as PentiumDC are supported
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product...x?pid=2331

CPU Compatibility List for GA945GM-S2
http://www.gigabyte.com/support-download...x?pid=2331

Here the latest BIOS version for the board installed is F6
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product...=2331#bios

Intel Spec for E5800
http://ark.intel.com/products/42802/Inte...ssor-E5800

I really would love to get this CPU to work at full speed with 3,2 GHz and not only throttling at 1,2 GHz... so I can use the HTPC in a normal way!

So, it should be a changeable thing due to the general capability of the boards hardware and the already supported CPUs... only lack of old BIOS and specific multiplier configuartion capabilities denys the full speed.

Does someone has any Idea? Like the possiblity to insert the E5800 microcode directly to the BIOS?

Thanks for your and any help!

no one can help?!

please - can anyone give some information about integration of CPU microcodes?

I found somethin on rebelsheaven... did anyone tried this successfully?!

thanks anyway for any information!

Did you try to full-load your new cpu? It can be the effect of Intel SpeedStep.

Shocked
thanks for your reply bung!

I tried to set performance mode (which should fix the highest clock setting) and of course tested it with CPUID under windows perfomance test with full load - the CPU frequency is unfortunately fixed with 1,2GHz at multiplier 6x - there is no way to force it to 16x...

so I have to look for a mod to get a chance to fix the wrong bios setting - maybe via injection of the right CPU microcode into the BIOS... The board itself must support this, because lower E5x00 CPUs are supported, even X6800 is supported so TDP must be specified with over 105Watts and even the new CPU functions should work as it runs - but with low speed ?!?

anyone out there with more suggestions?

Huh

your motherboard will never support the e5800 because you have 945g chipset. The E5800 CPU can only be used by the G31, G33, G35, G41, G43, G45, P31, P35, P43, P45, Q33, Q35, Q43, Q45, X38 and the X48. The highest Pentium Dual Core processor supported by your motherboard chipset is the e2200. I think you should return your E5800 and get the E6600 or the E6700.
