No need to press WIN-B
Hi all !
Tried your F42 mod on my compaq cq57, flashing it from win$ with your exe bundle... Unfortunately all I got was a semi-brick.
Recovery went fine (I had my usb stick ready!!). The recovery procedure I followed is thus, hope it helps some of you guys :
- prepared the drive with HP's UEFI tool (fat 32 filesystem, labeled 'HP_TOOLS')
- grabbed the hp bios softpaq (F46 in my case, but should work with F42, that is sp55355.exe), unpacked it and opened it with Andy's phoenix tool
- copied the 03577.BIN.DEC and RSA.SIG files generated by Andy's tool into the usb drive's Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/Current folder, renaming them to 03577.BIN and 03577.RSA respectively
- shut down, held win +b, pressed power and quickly released win + b keys afterwards
The screen remains blank and after about 15 secs, fan speed goes up and the screen lights, recovery starts... No pb
What I have noticed is :
- no need to keep power button pressed too long. Just keep win + b pressed beforehand and release them immediately after pressing power
- usb stick can contain other stuff, as long as the BIN and SIG are in the right place, that is 'Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/Current'
- When bricked, the caps lock light keep blinking. When starting the recovery, it shouldn't be blinking. It should only do so if the recovery has failed, after about 15-20 secs. This means you've gone wrong preparing the usb drive, but there's still hope left ! If you can't even get past this and it just blinks from the start whatever you do... perhaps you've succeeded in getting a quite expensive paperweight !
