eMachine 1200 upgrade mishap
#1
My EL1200 got a new motherboard, one for an EL1210. This gave me the ability to set the initial graphics device to pcie. Aside from the other features of the new board, that was the only bios upgrade sought. It was a smooth install and worked great.

An Acer bios update was unintentionally executed (windows based installer) on the new board. Thankfully, the system was able to start (remove pcie card & power, pull battery, press start button to drain any power...) but the update didn't terminate as it should have and the result is that the f2-setup interface is gone. All that appears is an f-12 option to select boot device.

Is this the correct forum to ask about what happened and for guidance?

My bad... after much reading on this site and others, the light went on. The board was eMachine el1210, but flashed with an Acer Aspire x1200 update.

I hadn't thought to look into an Acer manual... they use the DEL key to enter setup, rather than F2 which eMachine uses.
It's all good!!!!

The flash program was supposed to ask for reboot permission, but it just hung... Seeing how this same update crippled the original el1200 bios, I assumed the worst. Glad to have been wrong.

Lots of terrific info on this site... thanks for being here!
