HP MCP61PM-HM (Nettle3) Phenom II X4 support request
#41
(01-22-2010, 03:47 PM)Johnth Wrote: Hi everyone,

I have the HP MCP61PM-HM (Nettle3) motherboard, and bought an AMD phenom II 965 (AM3 socket), but it is not compatible as it only recognizes cores of 800mhz.

I've seen this : http://bios-mods.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=210&page=1 but I suppose it doesn't add CPU support, does it ?

Could you please tell me, at least, if it's possible before I go buying a new motherboard (this one works perfectly and 50€ are not nothing) ?

Thank you !

UPDATE: (From TheWiz)
Despite past struggles, if you read my blog post and update in this thread, I have finally found an easier and more successful method. This BIOS will add all support for all current Phenom II proccessors and the AM3 proccessor line.

Has anyone tried NETTLE3cpu2.bin? Does it work? What is chance of success/destroying mobo?

I have an MCP61PM-HM Rev 2.1 board in which I installed a AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM3 3.4GHz 8Mb Cache Part #: HDZ965FBGMBOX.

BIOS M801W_10.BIN (from http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-HP...ng-Options) doesn't recognize the 965 processor at all.

BIOS NETTLE3cpu2.bin (from page one of this forum post) does recognize the processor but will only clock it at 803 MHz. I think a newer version of the AGESA is required in this bios since it is currently at rev 3.1.8.0.

I've found a 'donor' bios here: http://english.gigabyte.ru/products/page...nload/bios from which I could pull an updated AGESA 3.7.1.2 (meminit.bin, agesacpu.rom and ncpucode.bin).

A note about CBROM: ver 2xx are old versions from 2001. Ver 1.98 is the latest version available I could find.

Using CBROM198 the Micro Code Information from the 'donor' bios seems to be corrupted (see below). I'm not sure if this is relevent or not.

** Micro Code Information **
Update ID CPUID | Update ID CPUID | Update ID CPUID | Update ID CPUID
------------------+--------------------+--------------------+------------------- 1000085 00001040|

Now finally my questions:

1) Is the donor bios that I found the best that is currently available for the MCP61PM-HM Rev 2.1 board?
2) Will meminit.bin, agesacpu.rom and ncpucode.bin trasnfered from the donor bios into either of the above bios images work?

Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated! :-)

Hi Spunky,

You will want to find a motherboard that has the same chipset as the nettle3 (nforce 430) The one you posted seems to be for a completely different chipset and would certainly kill the board.

NCPUCODE replacements are possible, but you will want to find a good donor BIOS first. The NETTLE3cpu2.bin detecting the processor but not clocking it right is a power design limitation of the board - I've seen this happen on ASUS boards as well and to date have not been successful in setting the multiplier correct from the BIOS.

Probably the best bet is an upgraded BIOS in the M801W BIOS with software OC to set the right multiplier.

Thanks for the info Wiz!!!

I did manage to find this: http://es.gigabyte.com/products/page/mb/...pme-s2p_13

Might give it a try.

Okay ... I was able to update M801W_10.bin with the AGESA 3.7.0.0 modules from a Gigabyte board GA-M61PME-S2P (rev. 1.3).

How would I go about finding an unlocked overclock menu to insert into the bios ... or should I use NETTLE3cpu2.bin which has an unlocked overclock menu but as mentioned earlier in this thread, it flutters.

In terms of software OC, what utility would you recommend. The ones I've tried don't even get close to the CPU's capabilities.

Success! :-)

from this thread: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-HP...ng-Options

I used this AMI Bios: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=3838 and it recognized the processor properly.

With Ntunes 5.05.54.00 I was able to OC the system as well.

Only downside is there's a PCI IRQ Routing Table Error [01:09:00] which translates into the VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller being disabled.

Hi Spunky,

Good to hear! I figured that the combination would work. I believe the PCI IRQ routing problem is only with the AMI BIOS and not the other alternative version to flash. I believe M801W_10.bin with the AGESA 3.7.0.0 modules should have overclocking and should recognize your processor correctly.

Hello, I have flasher bios of my HPa6521.fr (motherboard MCP61MP-HM rev2.2) successfully with (NETTLE3cpu2.bin) Smile .
My phenom !! 955 is recognized but it is limited to 804mhz Angry .
I do not have access to the advanced bios to set the voltage of the power supply or overcloker the cpu.
Do you have a solution? Huh
