fujitsu microcode tool available directly (phoenix securecore)
#1
It seems fujitsu motherboards are capable of cpu microcode update outside of a full bios flash using a tool available on their website called FTS_MICROCODEUPDATEVER200REL124PROMICRO_V200R124_1058180.exe,

I found it after reading a thread in a fujitsu forum where a guy had trouble installing a cpu that "should" have already been compatible, he was advised to run a fujitsu utility that would update the microcode for him without the need for a full bios reflash.

https://forum.ts.fujitsu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=45617

It says their that the tool is for ALL fujitsu motherboards so I tried it on mine and it worked like a charm, if it wasn't for this tool I would not be able to use the lga771to775 mod as the bios update from fujitsu is laid out differently to other bios I have modified in the past so I didn't know how to add the microcode manually.

tool is here forum says t is too large to add as an attachment.
http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Download/S...BCC25BBAA7&Info=FTS

the ulility has three options 1- create fdd 2- extract files 3, create image, I extracted but make sure to select a folder and not just extract to the desktop like I did the first time.

you can then direct hp usb disk tool to the folder to copy the dos files. I then copied the remaining files over to the usb manually with copy/paste, it asked to overwrite the 2 dos files but I said no.

I then inserted an e5450 with the adaptor sticker found online into my esprimo e3521 g41 lga775 motherboard that had the socket modified for the 771 to 775 modification and booted up the usb drive,

there is an option initially to select pre and post year 2000 cpu data (default is post 2000) after that you get an are you sure type y/n prompt, the microcode flash takes seconds and after a reboot the microcode error was gone.

Windows then booted up fine where before I would get a reboot loop and when trying to enter safe mode or system repair I got a bsod multiprocessor-configuration-not-supported.

the usb will only add the microcode for the processor that is inserted rather than copying all the xeon codes over or replacing the core2 codes, ( mine now should support all eo stepping harpertown cpus as they share the same cupid/microcode).

the microcode file contains pretty much every cpu up until 2010

The bios system on the esprimo e3521 is phoenix v6.00 secure core, perhaps someone could adapt the utility to work with other brands using the securecore bios, fujitsu claim it will only work with their own motherboards but I do not have any way to confirm or deny this (perhaps it checks dmi string for brand?)

This has been by far the best upgrade I have ever done, I have gone from an e8400 to an e5450 for just £35 including the price of 2 conversion stickers off ebay (cpu was about $1000 new) the equivalent core 2 quad q9650 sells second hand for £150 on ebay, once I upgrade from 4 to 8gb of ram I should be set.

I have no overclocking options but at least this pc will serve for a little while longer now that quad cores are mainstream and multithreaded apps and games are more common place.

if this tool works for your fujitsu pc or laptop please confirm in the other forum.

If anyone is willing to test or modify this to work on other brands let us know.

Thank you very much for this post. Even years after the OP there are many Fujitsu-Siemens PC's off-lease that sell for less than 50$, and I am upgrading mine (that I had for free) from a E8400 to a Xeon E5472 for 14$. Xeon processors may today be purchased already transformed to LGA 775.
