I did try the steps mentioned before and the only string I was able to come up with is 'SapporoGL.fd', unfortunately nothing happens upon doing the Fn+ESC shuffle, it just boots through.
Any ideas besides immediately returning this POS?
/e: Turns out first post was putting me on the wrong track, NOT processing the file with any extractor did the trick. Just simple and plain rename and it worked, a bit scary with zero feedback on the screen but it came back nicely updated. Thanks everyone.

I was having the same problem with exactly the same model, (SF114-32-P2PK) and couldn't make it work, even with the same firmware as you (1.07). Turns out that I was using the 'wrong' USB port. (next to the led's). Once I switched to the left side, it worked.
