A7N8X-LA by HP BIOS unlock
#51
MrTangoWhisky, want to check BIOS compatibility from different versions? Might work out as the differences are mostly done by additional controllers.

Antinomy, we try to find a fully unlockable working BIOS for the HP A7N8X-LA with a crappy HP-BIOS. I found several different versions as you can read yourself but not any is fully compatible. I will cross-test now wich BIOS works on wich PCB and then I will try to assemble all the compatible working modules to a HP-free BIOS working for the -LA...

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

Hi.
I read with great interest this tread, and i was wondering if there are any news on the release of a HP-free BIOS working for the -LA.

My concern is that I consider upgrading memory of my HP computer (with the A7N8X-LA motherboad), and I would really like not to be bound by the 1Go limit imposed by the HP original Bios, and be able to install 2Go, as this motherboard seems to be capable.

Besides, if I can also overclock a bit the processor, I would not mind, but it is not my primary concern.

I read on previous posts that I may install the bios of another A7N8X, event though I would loose FireWire support, which is no issue for me. Would you recommend that?

Thanks again for the time you spend on these issues.

Regards.

An old thread but anyway... What program did you use for flashing A7N8X-LA? I tried to flash A7N8X-VM bios with AFUDOS --> no signal anymore. How could I recover/flash new bios now?

Hi,
Finally I did not flash the Bios... I just upgraded to 1 Go.
Unfortunatly, I don't know what to do in such case. I would say your motherboard is dead, but I'm far from being an expert. I'll google around to see if I can find something.
Good luck.

How about hotflash? I have a few mobos with removable bios-chip: 815ep Pro, K7S41GX, VB-601. I've tested AFUDOS with them, but it just gives some error: the bios doesn't support AFU, The Bios information isn't available etc.

EDIT: Oops, the bios was Phoenix Award, I will try some other tools but afudos.
EDIT2: Awardbios v8.54B and earlier:

Flash Type -

File Name to Program: asusbios.bin

NVMAC : LAN =FF328DF000E73900
NVGUID : 1394 =FF328DF000E73900

Message: Binary File is not Award BIOS!

BIOS Image File is for nForce Chipset Only!

A:\>

I'm now using K7S41GX. How could I force the update anyway? Already tried /f command.

8.94:

Flash Type -

File Name to Program : asusbios.bin

-> The program file's part number <-
->does not match with your system <-

Message: Please input File Name

A:\>

/f command doesn't work anymore with 8.94, it simply doesn't exist anymore Sad

Anybody? This is my only nForce mobo, got few VIA, but they are not very good for SuperPi Sad

A7N8X isn't good either. Though better than VIA of course. Do you bench for HWBot? Wink
You should make a hotflash using an LPC board. Any Nforce board should work fine. Just check that the flash ROM on your other board is LPC too, not FWH (or parallel if you use an old board).

Try flashing with Uniflash if things go south with other flash tools.

Yep, HWBot, of course. Smile I own only two nForce-boards: this, bios-failed one and some broken Epox board... D: All others Via or SiS... -.-

I will now try Uniflash

Edit: no luck, Uniflash wasn't even able to detect the original bios chip Undecided And, my 815EP Pro is now broken, I failed with multimeter Big Grin
