Pegatron M2N68-LA/HP Narra6-GL6: CPU Upgrade
#21
Hey everyone.................

Was just wondering if there is a way to unlock or hack my Bois ? The reason i'm searching for this is as follows.................

My budget is very limited as of late and i want to fully upgrade my current PC before diving into building a new one from scratch.
My Ram Limit is only 4-GIG where Compaq/HP has removed 2 of the 4 RAM slots on my M2N68-LA (Narra6) motherboard

I have the AMD II Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor) Processor at the moment but found my MoBo can supports these Processors

Socket type: AM3
TDP: 95 watt
AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb)
AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka)
AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto)
AMD II Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus)
AMD II Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana)
AMD II Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor)
AMD Sempron 1xx (Sargas)

Obversely i want to fully upgrade my PC so i was looking at the AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb).
But then found out that the AMD Athlon X2 5000+ can be unlocked to the same specs as the Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb) BUT at a much cheaper cost.

I've had a little look around and not sure where to go from here............... Here is some more details about my system

I also have the Model Number, Product Number, The Build Id and the Core Number if needed.........................

Any help with this would be great Big Grin

First of all, your Bios seems to have all AM2/AM3 Microcodes available, so there is no need for an AGESA Mod:

Here you have the latest Biosupdate V6.14, which I've used for checking the Microcodes:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12...p52418.exe
or http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52418.exe

I've furthermore looked inside your Bios with AMIBCP_V3.37, there is nothing to enable,
all available Features are shown, no hidden features, your Mainboard has no Core-Unlocking feature,
so you cant use an AMD Athlon II X2 as an AMD Athlon II X4 on your Mainboard.

You also need to note that the Phenom II X4 has about +10% performance in comparison to unlocked Athlon X2=X4
because of it's L3-Cache of 6 MiB, which the Athlons don't have, so you'll be good to go with a Phenom II X4 Wink

Ciao ragazzi, sono nuovo nel forum.
Ho 2 pezzi assemblati hp.

I did not want to buy a more powerful CPU for this reason. Now I have an AMD Athlon II X4 640 CPU. I would also like to unlock the AHCI and uefi support for WIndows 10.
I had seen on your forum a user who had modified the bios for this pc but unfortunately the link to download the file is no longer available. Sad
Even there were also settings to perform overclocking!

not possible to have UEFI because that requires replacing the actual bios chip on the board; you cannot change old bios chips from those old boards to uefi chips.

M2N68-LA Narra6 boards always use legacy (non-UEFI) bios chips, no matter what.  those boards were made before uefi came out.

But Windows 10 supports both legacy bios (non-uefi) and uefi systems.

by the way, get either an AMD Phenom II X4 B97 (3.2Ghz) or AMD Phenom II X4 955 (HDX955WFK4DGM) [3.2Ghz] CPU, which is a little better than the Athlon II X4 640 processor and either one should work in your M2N68-LA Narra6 board.
