This system, for whatever reason, fails to function properly with video cards less than 8 years old or so. The system has an FX5200 in it at the moment and it behaves perfectly fine, even under extreme load.
When attempting to use an 8400GS, the system POSTs, but will do nothing else. If I attempt to enter BIOS setup, the screen goes black. Same with trying to boot Windows.
When inserting a Radeon HD3450, the system powers on, but no video signal is ever emitted. The card works fine, as tested in other computers.
The initial case sounds like a weak power supply, but that makes no sense, given that both the 8400GS and HD3450 have equal or lower power consumption when compared to the FX5200 that is in use.
