Weirdly just before I looked on here to see if you had any luck I found an article on a similar process of swapping the card while the machine was running. It forced a reboot and when it started the card could be installed. Just done a shutdown and restart and it still seems to allow the machine to boot! The card works great can finally use it as a media center!

Actually it still wouldn't cold boot but found this http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=704076 which looks like my pc is an eebox also but rebranded, tried covering pin 24 on the card with a bit of tape and now it cold boots Smile
