Hey, stealthybox here.
I was having trouble with my Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 the other day.
I recently backed up and formatted the harddrive because I was interested in getting a GPT/EFI boot setup on it,
but I hit a wall with my BIOS options and was informed by some Dell reps that the option to boot via any EFI interface has been disabled on this BIOS.
There are SLIC 2.1 modded versions of the N5110 A10 and, I believe, A11 BIOS's out there already, and I've found a few threads on here regarding enabling the hidden options of AMI Aptio Platform BIOS's, so I'm hoping that there's some hope.
If some of you folks could please post some guidance as to the steps I should take/tools I can download, perhaps even explain processes, that would be fantastic and greatly appreciated. I'm well versed in a small list of OOP languages and have a little knowledge in ASM, so code doesn't necessarily frighten me. If this is something I will be able to do myself with the lack of experience I have, I will take the leap, but I won't reject any handouts.
If we get this figured out, I suppose we can move on to adding the already done footwork of adding the SLIC tables, Native SpeedStep, and vBios Support
Goal:
'BIOS' /w UEFI Boot Support
Future Goal:
'BIOS' /w UEFI Boot + SLIC 2.1 + vBios's for those with GPU's
Model:
Dell Inspiron 15R
BIOS Type:
AMI Aptio [UEFI] (FW version unknown?)
Most Recent BIOS Version:
A11 ( Obtainable from N5110A11.exe /writeromfile )
Opens in AMI BCP 4.5 /w Error Code: (editable but cryptic)
Does not open in AMI BCP 8:
Opens in MMTool.
Thanks for reading.
Any help is very much appreciated.
