Blank screen upon startup
#1
Hello, I have a Compaq CQ62. It had a virus but I switched HDD's not sure if maybe the Virus may have messed up the BIOS or what is going on?

When I turn the laptop on instead of the red Compaq bios splash screen it's either grey/light black or rarely colors like orange to red ect. But then Windows starts no problem. I've ran HWMonitor while watching movies, playing games and there are no signs of overheating. If I hit esc or F2 etc when the grey screen is there upon startup it still takes me to BIOS. So bios still functions it just has the crazy screen for a few seconds.

I tried updating BIOS from the HP drivers page for my product but same thing. I tried switching HDD's and same thing. I tried switching LCD Cables and same thing. Again laptop works perfect, no signs of anything wrong EXCEPT upon startup this little problem.

Has anyone ever heard of this crap? I am out of guesses only thing I can think of is bios was messed up with the virus but wouldn't it have fixed it if I upgraded bios from the HP site? Or could it still be corrupted?

Not sure if it matters but I am running win7 tried both Ult and HP x64bit. AMD CPU. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Anything? I forgot to mention that it does sometimes show the red compaq bios screen but will first show the light black/grey screen then just flash the bios screen for a second before the Windows is starting screen. and again I am able to actually go to bios options or boot menu or f8 just doesn't always show the screen.

Sorry again lol. I keep remembering to do certain tests. Well I just hooked it up to an external monitor and it does NOT happen. BIOS shows up perfect. So considering I already changed the cable I am guessing unless both cables are broke then it must be the screen? Never seen the screen only mess up at boot, could it just be a loose connection or have you heard of a bad screen acting up like this during boot only?

I also noticed that when it's on the desktop home and I move the screen back and forth there is a green line all the way to the left going from top to bottom. Just one line? Another sign of bad connection?
