I want to be able to choose between muxed and muxxless options for the switchable graphics

I have tried to follow donovan's tutorial but I was unsuccessful due to my lack of knowledge

Unfortunatley your bios, like all new HP bios, have a signature check on startup that prevents them from being modified. I recommend you try Fasleclock's perl sciprt tutorial that goes over how to change the EFI global variables via an EFI environment.
