Acer aspiire 8930G reset bios settings ?
#1
Hi,

i recently upgraded my bios on my aspire 8930G to use a modified bios with the advanced settings menu enabled.
This was successful.

However, earlier today i changed 4 bios settings, one of which has resulted in my current problem.
The settings i changed was: PCI latency timer from 64 to 32 (i suspect this is the culprit)
another set of settings i changed was memory thermal settings, i enabled them and set the setting to max (should not have caused my problem)

This has resulted in that my system cannot start up what so ever.
I've tried pulling the CMOS battery, even shortcircuting the pins where the cmos battery was located did not help.
I have also had the CMOS battery removed for about 45 minutes, without any results.

I simply press my power button, the cinedash lights up and around the power button, then it shuts off, i dont get any further, though when my memory is not in the slots i am able to boot up to a blank screen. (hence i beleive its my bios settings)

how can i reset this bios ?

kind regards
DjMadness

You have to Recover It and You are lucky as It work well !
Here You go :

http://rghost.net/7dLtCNrxq

Use the Recovery Procedure :

Format an USB Stick Fat32 and copy into the recovery file KM2X64.fd, then

- Shutdown the netbook (notebook)
- Remove all peripheral devices
- Remove battery, Remove AC power cord
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (battery and AC power still out), then release
- Put the USB Memory Stick in the USB port
- Hold "Fn" + "Esc" and plug the AC power cord in
- Now press the power button (whilst still holding Fn + Esc).
Wait until the fan will run, then release "Fn" + "Esc" keys
- The fan will run for about 2-10 minutes and the USB drive activity LED will blink
- I think the netbook rebooted automatically. If it doesn't, unplug the AC power cord once the fan has turned off

The bios should be updated with the modified BIOS, and boot as per normal.

After reload Bios then load default Settings into Menu Setup and save It !

The above precedure cannot apply to my problem, i tried anyway without any luck.
As i stated above my system powers down as soon as i press the power button the light lights power up around the power button and the cinedash lights up snd fan spins. However this is a short event, max half a second later everything is powered down.

If i take out the memory i can get a black screen, but that is of no use (i've tried different ram modules aswell from another working laptop, same result.)

It's strange as without RAM Module Laptop cannot start !
You can try to switch on without Battery on MoBo and see what happen !
Or if there is problem just buy the tools and We can do the job !

Hi,

I have the exact same problem and it's driving me crazy. It's good to see i'm not the only one although i don't read a solution.

I can say, that in my case, the only thing I changed in the bios was the memory thermal setting and after that the laptop was finished.
Same thing here, it powers up without the RAM modules and just blink when they are installed.
It's a mystery to me.

Now this laptop allready had a mystery problem before that.
The only way to start Windows was with 1 of the 2 cores disabled, otherwise the machine would turn off instantly as soon as the Windows logo showed up.

Unless i disconnected the AC power and only used the battery

or

If i was on AC power and used Safe Mode.

Then i was able to use dual-core.
I know this is a known problem and can be resolved by replacing some parts on the mainboard.
So i think it's power related but i'm not sure.
I really would like a solution cause i really need this thing in a few days but i'm afraid this is to weird.

Thanks,
Paul

Hello,

Replying to an old post, but might will be useful for anyone facing the above issue.

I also (accidentally) changed the memory thermal settings in a modded bios on an Acer Aspire 8930G.
The laptop would shutdown almost immediately after pressing the power button, unless all memory sticks were removed (but then only the fan spins, can't do anything with the laptop).
I tried all known reset and recovery procedures, but none solved the issue.

I solved the issue by reflashing the bios chip (Winbond W25X16VSSIG) with a USB programmer.
The chip is relatively easy to access: remove the back cover, unscrew and unplug the WiFi card, the chip is there.

Best!
