research for writing a BIOS/UEFI/firmware system
#1
Hi, I'm pretty new to all this and am not sure where to research writing a BIOS/UEFI/firmware system that can run an emulator eventually. I understand this is a big project and have a friend who is also helping with this. We'd prefer to just mod an existing code, or assembler/compiler, but if we have to start from scratch we will. Personally I'd like to use it as a personal project that I will be able to change and add microcode or something allowing me to use it for my designs. But right now all that matters is getting the system to turn on. By then we should know enough about the code to change it how we like. All we really need help with is were to get information or tutorials so we can get a better idea how to go about coding the system. Some things we thought were relevant are:

machine code
CPU code
ALU ode
microcode
clock
BIOS
EUFI
firmware
POST instructions
boot loaders
emulators
OS
boot manager
microassemblers
ROM code
PLA
SRAM
flash memory

As I said I'm new to this so theres probably things in there that are similar and not needed, just as there are probably lots of thins missing.

The system we're making will be running a tv (with usb touchscreen device), a mouse/keyboard, a trackpad (I want it to be as accurate as possible), a touchscreen display, a projector, a main HD, 3 other HD (for storage), the motherboard has 6 ubs ports, HDMI, VGA, a projector VGA i think (its the Req one with a line on the left side), 5.1 audio, Lan line (which i don't need with this), 2 HD plugs, and a mouse/keyboard plug.

Where should we start looking? Especially for information on how to start writing it. Thanks in advance.
