how to make a Phoenix backup flashable?
#11
(06-15-2016, 11:49 PM)Sml6397 Wrote: Yes, I did modify a similar BIOS image, but that was a factory image. The reason that I can't make your BIOS dump flashable is because it is 2MB (instead of 1MB like I am used to) and because the end of the file has a different format than I am used to. I am unable to make a flashable BIOS image for this BIOS, sorry.

~Steven

hi Steven,
I discovered that its easy to make an flashable bios file; in hex editor an original bios file (I used available flashables PBPE2L0N.P05, P07 and P10) has the platformdata at the end. The platformdata begins at 00200000 and are in all versions the same.
I copied this data block at the end of a PBPE2L0N.P14 backup (001FFFF0) and .... it is flashable!!!
As attachment the flashables P13 and P14.

Steven I should be very grateful if you could modify the P14 with AHCI enabled? Thanks in advantage!!
Jos

Hello Jos,

Thank you so much for telling me this information! That will be very helpful in the future. I didn't want to try  this on your 2MB BIOS, because I was worried that the process would be different and I may run the risk of bricking your computer.

I will take a look at your BIOS image.

Hello Jos,

Your BIOS mod is complete. The archive with the modified BIOS image can be found at the bottom of this post.

I have unlocked the hidden INTEL Menu. I unlocked the 'SATA Mode Selection' setting under INTEL>'ICH Control Sub-Menu'>ICH Sata Pata Control Sub-Menu>. This setting will allow you to enable AHCI. I also added a few more settings to the Advanced Menu.

Precautions/Disclaimers:
Quote:Please remember to take proper precautions when flashing your BIOS. Even if the BIOS image is safe, the flashing process can still fail. Make sure that [if applicable] your notebook is fully charged (100%), that the power adapter is properly connected, and that the chance of a power outage occurring is as minimal as possible. Do not interrupt the flashing process. If possible, it is good practice to have a working CRISIS recovery disk handy when flashing your BIOS. Use the flashing instructions for your particular computer brand. DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNNECESSARY!!!

I take absolutely NO responsibility for ANY damages that may occur to you, your computer, your personal belongings, your neighbor's cat, or any other personnel or equipment as a direct or indirect result or consequence of your, or any one else's, use or misuse of any of the files that are in this archive at the present or at any time in the past or the future. You assume full responsibility for any damages or inconveniences that may occur by choosing to flash, or otherwise use or misuse, this image or any of the other files within this archive.

Have fun! Smile

Please remember to post the results of the BIOS flash!

Hello Steven,
Thank you very much for your bios mod!!! Sorry for the long delay, but I was very busy last month and did not look in the forum...
Your mod works flawless, I got a complete new menu extra in my bios (see photo).
My good old Packard Bell MH36 now reads the ssd on full speed.
I like it to tune up that kind of "old" devices and discover how much power they still have.

Thanks again, i am very happy with your work!!
Jos
