I have an Asus X54H-SX137D laptop using an AMI Aptio 4.5 firmware.. It has a facility to use UEFI, and here's the problem (also documented here)
The UEFI functionality is almost flawless in every other respect, EXCEPT that sleep function simply doesn't work... I have verified that it's a firmware issue because the exact same thing happens in both windows and linux (fedora). Before I used UEFI, sleep was working perfectly in BIOS-mode booting.
To be precise, what happens is that the screen goes off, the disk activity pattern indicating going to sleep is happening, and then gets completely stuck while still being on. The only thing I can do from this point onwards is to force-off by holding the power button for 4 seconds.
It would be great if someone here with some ideas can help in fixing what looks to me very obviously as a bug in the laptop firmware (direct link to download the file ). I'm quite familiar with the BIOS options, but I'm new to firmware modding and I'd love to learn... (hopefully it has a BIOS chip socket?)
