Gigabyte X79-UD3 1.0 support for E5-2670 v2
#1
Hello all,

I have an X79-UD3 Rev 1.0 motherboard (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-...-rev-10#ov) currently running with an i7-3820 on F20 bios which was released on 2014-03-20 (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-...rt-dl-bios).
Recently I purchased a Xeon E5-2670 v2 (10c20t, 2.5GHz base) (https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/e...tions.html), but discovered that it is not supported natively. When installed into the motherboard, it boot cycles.
However, the F20 bios works with the more powerful E5-2680 v2 (10c20t, 2.8GHz base), both have a TDP of 115W, the same bclk, 25MB L3 cache, both were released on 2013-09-10. So would it be possible to edit the bios to add support for the E5-2670 v2?

System specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte X79-UD3 1.0
RAM: 2x8GB HyperX Fury 1866MHz DDR3
GPU: GTX 560Ti

Thanks!

Current BIOS already has support for Xeon E5-2670 v2 - https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/14233460

Hello, thanks for the reply. Everywhere that I had check didn't indicate this was possible so you're a lifesaver!
That's good news, I'll check my bios configuration and try again. Will report back with results tomorrow

I tested the Xeon with the F20 bios, it doesn't work. Just in case it was corrupted, I downloaded it again from the Gigabyte website and flashed it to the board using my i7. Still boot cycles in >2s after pressing the power button.

I have not found proof that the F20 works with the Xeon other than the link you sent, maybe it was modded?
Any ideas?

At first you need to test CPU with other motherboard.

I found the issue: Due to power delivery problems, the Rev 1.0 of the board does not support any v2 xeons at all. This is exclusive to the UD boards. Bummer.
