PLEASE HELP! Bios Re-flash failed
#1

Ok, 1st hi everyone. I've been up for 26 hours, tired and feeling like crud. Have Award BIOS reflash failure. Details are here:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Aw...3-10--6483

Could really use some advice as something is wrong. I did the flash, but it keeps saying
"FHM ROM is write protected", but after checking the current bios file (used "universal extractor") it is clearly different than the "Known" good bios 3.10. I tried downgrading by going from a 3.10 to a 3.06. Now, about 80% of the file from my current bios is showing the 3.06's hex values? Both files start the same (3.06 & current bios) but end different. Neither is remotely similar to the 3.10. Why would it think the jumper is in? It clearly overwrote a big chunk of the bios memory. But now I'm stuck as I don't want to turn it off. Ideas? If I disappear for awhile expect the worseSad Otherwise I'll leave the computer running and hopefully get some positive thoughts.

Worse case, if it needs a new chip for the bios, anyone have any they wanna sell with a good boot up (AwardBios 3.6-3.10) that unlocks OC settings? Otherwise, what's a good board + chip combo in the $200 range that can replace (plug and play/ AMD) my A8M2N-LA Motherboard. AMD athlon X2 4200 2.4Ghz? I've seen many AMD stuff in the 3.2 - 3.6 Ghz range, would I have a lot of trouble getting a new mother board with a Phenon chip to work? Sorry, did I mention I'm tired:0 Ok, GTX 550Ti video card, 600w Power supply, and still plenty of memory, so it'd be cheaper to replace mobo worse case. Will I have trouble getting windows XP to work? What other issues would I run into? especial with this being 32bit, and everything new is 64? I'm taking a crash coarse here with spec stuff, so be easy plz.

I'm actually disappointed no one responded Sad Why is this such a tough crowd? I ended up getting a spare mobo off ebay and am running it until I can recover my original mobo which has more features built in.

I have a bunch of exp dealing with reversing and unpacking protectors/programs etc, but getting into the guts of a computer is somewhat new to me, but I'm trying. Google only helps so much as if you don't type the exact word/phrase that someone else used, it's a fishing trip. And then to ascertain what is relevant to my exact set-up isn't always easy.

Anyways, I'll go the DOS route next time, but need a good substitute BIOS version to flash to my bricked board. The board is an ASUS A8M2N-LA (HP variant). It has the 2 core 2.41Ghz Athlon 4600. Again, I'd like to OC to get more from it until I can afford a better board. Can someone suggest an unlocked AwardBios version that I can use?
