It appears that the dell poweredge 2850 doesn't ship w/ microcode to support a second video adaptor, or to disable onboard video in deference to a detected video card.
I have the dell model w/ the pci express bus riser (as opposed to the pci-x) and had high hopes for getting this box working w/ a nice video card. Imagine my frustration when I realized that dell didn't provide the ability to install an alternative video card...
I noticed several members of this board are utilizing pe 2650 / 2850 units as their home machines; was curious if there was any interest in trying to update the one defiicient subsystem on an otherwise awesomely performing piece of hardware.
I am happy to assist in any way needed / necessary, provide any additional information, etc.
