[SUCCESS/SOLVED] Semi bricked a HP dv6 3225dx
#1
Good Morning,

I found and used a HP wifi whitelist remover bios sp55299_NWL_ByCamilimol.exe bios for my HP dv6 3225dx to get rid of the wifi restrictions on it. I read the statement that it could semi brick my laptop and took the risk. I was working perfect for a few hours then out of the blue, the laptop is going to black. So I read the forums for advice. I found this:

http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Br...209?page=2

So, I downloaded Camilimol HP Recovery files, Andy's tool 1.95 and grabbed a few thumb drives . I tried sp55299 and sp51090 from HP's website. I used Andy's tool to get the .sig and .bin files, renamed them to 1448.sig and 1448.bin, put them in the current, new and previous folders. I booted with and without the Windows+B buttons, the laptop is reading the thumbdrives but it seems to load then power cycles. If anyone could give me some guidance I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you ahead of time!!

Thank you for the reply,

Here is what I had to do to get things working again.

I downloaded the HP System Diagnostics UEFI from:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...61&sw_lang=

I formatted a 4 gig PNY thumb drive to FAT(16) then used the HP System Diagnostic UEFI utility from Hp to install the Diagnostics to it.

Then I found Camilimol's Recovery_sp50942.rar, I extracted the contents of the archive to a folder. Next I copied the BIOS and BIOSUpdate folders to the root folder thumb drive.

Next I unplugged the thumb drive from my desktop, plugged it into the usb port next to the power adapter port, said a quick prayer, turned the power on and within a few seconds i noticed the thumb drives activity lights blinking more than it did any other time. Within a 30 seconds, HP's BIOS Recovery began to repair the damaged BIOS.

SUCCESS

Below is a link to my archive, HP_BIOS_Recovery_sp50942.rar, that contains the files from Camilimol Recovery_sp50942.rar and HP's System Diagnostics UEFI. Also here is a quick step by step overview for those that prefer to do it themselves from scratch.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/peh0ow

Recovery from the HP_BIOS_Recovery_sp50942.rar attached below

1.) Format a thumb drive to FAT(16) or FAT
2.) Extract the contents the root of your thumb drive (e:\ or whatever yours is)
3.) Take the recovery thumb drive over the the semi-bricked laptop, plug it into a usb, i chose the one next to the power adapter port. Power up, wait a few seconds and hopefully this will recover your HP as it did mines.

Recovery from Scratch
1.) Format a thumb drive to FAT(16) or FAT
2.) Download HP's System Diagnostics from: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...61&sw_lang=
3.) Find and download Camilimol's Recovery_sp50942.rar for the unencrypted BIOS and .sig files
4.) Install HP's System Diagnostics to your thumbdrive, make sure that the only removable drive plugged into the computer is the one you plan to use as a recover disc. HP's System Diagnostics automagically found and installed itself to my usb disc.
5.) After HP's System Diagnostics finished, extract the files from Camilimol's Recovery_sp50942.rar, copy the BIOS and BIOSUpdate folders into the root of the recovery thumb drive
6.) Take the recovery thumb drive over the the semi-bricked laptop, plug it into a usb, i chose the one next to the power adapter port. Power up, wait a few seconds and hopefully this will recover your HP as it did mines.

Thank you for the site and resources Camilimol !

Hi!

Could you help me out plesase, i'm stuck, i followed your recommendations but i couldn't make it work.
Initial problem: i have DV6-3299en Rossignol edition. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...81794#N740

Tried to use an unlocked SP55299 Bios in order to be able to shut down the switchable graphics and set it to the ATi card.
The driver update was succesfull, worked fine, but after i changed the graphic card mode in the BIOS the screen stopped working. I was able to boot into windows i have to mention.
I even noticed, that when the power was plugged in and i pressed the shut down button, for a very short time(~0.1s) the screen turned onSmile,
i even used it to track where i managed to navigate blindly in the BIOS and got lost. Then shut down and started it overSmile.
Unfortunately this "feature" stopped working. After i started to experiment with the solutiions described on this site the latop is not able to boot into windows any longer(can't hear the boot sound, WIFI LED is always on).

I did try to follow all the instruction all day Long.

- Tried the intructions on the "Insyde BIOS Recovery" page, (the link on the top of the page)

- Then tried camiloml's description to format a kingmax 2GB flash, with HP_TOOLS label copy the content of the supplied Recovery_sp50942 archive onto it.
- Tried also to write the flash with the UEFI utility first, and only after that i coppied the content of the Recovery_sp50942.
I noticed that the Recovery_sp50942. uses the same .bin driver as the one hp offers for my DV6: 01448.
Since i had an another flash drive(16GB) which i used to update the UEFI utility before i bricked my laptop i tried to copy the bin file from that onto the the one i have been trying to use(2GB) for unbricking.

Tried to boot with win+B, Ctrl+ESC, o without pressing keys. With the battery removed.
I get no beeping sound, the mute and WIFI leds ar lightened up.
The flash activity LED starts to blink after a few seconds. Let it to do it's job several times for even more than a couple of minutes.
The flash activity LED stops blinking and nothing happens.

Questions:

Do i have to use Andy's phoenix tool? as i understood it is only used to define only the name of the driver(like 1448).
Do i have to use signed dirvers(from HP), or decripted ones(How to?, maybe a help how to use ANDY's tool?).
Do i have to do something with the RSA.SIG file?

Please explain, help me! Your help will be appreciated and not forgotten!Just bought my notebook yesterday and is bricked.

Latest driver version F.29 SP55299.exe

Thanks in advance!
