There is the Name stamped on Motherboard U5 and Eeprom Chip Name W25Q64FVSIG !
Let me know
Regards

Yes so it is the chip i was talking about - this means i can flash without ripping the laptop apart every time Smile

Just a question for DrInformer: does your G505s have dual gpu setup? - because if the answer is yes then i may need some help raising an issue straight to lenovo (i have tried and failed before on my own)
Kind regards

AH i have already seen these:

the problem is that the G505s comes with an HD 8650g intergrated gpu on the laptop cpu, and also a R5 M230 or HD 8570m dedicated. The dedicated gpu will never seem to function when told to inside AMD catayst. I do think this is an issue on lenovos end as switchable graphics does work on similar laptops like the MSI gx70/gx60. Would it be possible to start a thread and get enough attention for lenovo to fix this issue?

kind regards

Hi mate,
A lot of laptop are assembled with Intel Graphix Card (Chip embedded) + nVidia or ATI Video Card
(Chip embedded too) !!!
There are few hi-cost laptop with a PCIe Video Card Wink
So the issue is the same for all !
Now i repeat the problem is to know if your MoBo has Muxed or MuxLess Graphix !
If It's Muxless then may be manufacturers are disabled denifitively It and I cannot enable !
Regards

P.S. You can make a Thread or more but I cannot add anything more there is yet into Bios
(We have no sources) !

ah yes i know about these intel + amd laptops.

For some reason, lenovo decided to put and amd +amd setup, which asus did with the X550DP and also MSI did with the GX70 laptop. The X550DP laptop is the one i am interested in as it is the same cards (amd 8650g and HD 8570m). Because that laptop does not have any issues with gpu switching, i think lenovo cannot write firmware correctly. Also, the laptop is a muxless config...YAY

It would appear that since amd crimson has come out, a lot more people are coming forward on lenovo's forums saying they cant switch their gpu's. Maybe this problem will eventually get fixed.

As for the BIOS side of things, i will flash the insyde based image you gave me on christmas and will play around with the video config and see if i can make a breakthrough there Angel Wink .

Quick search on google shows there forums:

http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2850...-mode.html -> this guy reports that only amd 14.7 works with switchable graphics - so i know my install of 14.7 was not a fluke.

I have been commenting on some of them to try and help - my username is the same as it is on here XD

Also, it would appear that my and DrInformer's G505s are different...

My motherboard is LA-A091P motherboard. According to this, the SPI ROM chip is U3 which is inside the maintence hatch so i do not need to disassemble the entire laptop.

Kind regards.

PS. BDMaster, SPI rom programmer and test clips were in my presents to flashing will happen tomorrow. YAY

BDMaster, Donovan6000 or whoever has knowledge of this, I actually have a question regarding the stock BIOS and the options available if it were to be unlocked and successfully reflashed onto the machine.

I really am just after being able to adjust RAM timings and clock. I am looking at getting 1866MHz 10-10-10-30 RAM and I've seen that this machine locks the speed to 1600MHz (and I would assume then standard JEDEC timing profiles and not XMP). Can this be unlocked in the BIOS or does the stock BIOS not even have an option for it and therefore would have to have it added in and be rewritten?

I do believe my BIOS version is 83CN53WW, but I do not have my machine in front of me at the moment to confirm. I know it is the same 3.00 .exe version that many prior post have linked to.

Thanks!

First off, I apologize if I'm asking what has already been asked. I tried searching for an answer and couldn't find one so here I am.

I have a Lenovo G505s without the dedicated graphics (only the embedded graphics in the A10-5750M APU) and it has an Insyde BIOS. Now I am looking at putting in some 1866MHz 10-10-10-30 RAM into it, but would like to make sure that the BIOS isn't going to try running it at some JEDEC standard (since 10-10-10-30 isn't standard from what I can tell). I have seen other people put 1866MHz RAM into this machine and it does work, but I can't find any reported timings or if it actually runs at 1866MHz (I have seen people say that the CPU is capable of that speed, but the mobo locks it to 1600MHz). Does anyone know if the Insyde BIOS will lock the memory down to something other than what the RAM is capable of or if it will actually run at the XMP profile?

If the BIOS does lock it down, does the BIOS have the code in it to allow me to run the memory at it's full capabilities? If not, will implementing Coreboot for the BIOS give me that capability? Is it not even the BIOS that would do that, but some other part of microcode on the BIOS chip?

Also, I have seen that Lenovo uses Insyde's secure dealio thing that makes flashing modded BIOS's through software impossible. Is this true? Is the only way to flash a modded BIOS on this machine is to do it with an external programmer? Is this BIOS RSA signed like the HP ones and therefore rendering any modding useless?

I believe that my BIOS version is 83CN53WW, but I don't currently have the machine near me to confirm. I do know that it is what is included in the current 3.00 update on Lenovo's website: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds038577

I have extracted the .bin file from the installer package so I can provide that if needed.

Thanks!
