You may have to order CH341A flash programmer + SOIC8 test clip with cable, here is cheap examples on ebay (3-5 week delivery at these prices)

I mostly tried the method mentioned on the super user site. I tried the 1 mentioned on the asus site a few days ago, prior to creating this thread. I can't recall if I tried it with any of the boot files on the usb stick or not. I'll try that shortly.
if that does not work, I'm just going to buy a new motherboard on ebay and have it expedited to me here in the USA to install it myself:
