Apologies for my ignorance but as this is the most recently touched thread that is peripherally related to the hardware I am dealing with, I am glomming on in hopes of getting some guidance from what seems to be a great community here.
I recently inherited an HP Pavilion A6650F and would like to put a more fully featured BIOS on the motherboard than the very limited one currently on there. The motherboard is a Pegatron M2N68-LA; from this forum I have learned there are several flavors of this board model number, my board looks like the Narra3. After the model number that is printed on the board it says "Rev. 3.02". When I go into the current BIOS it identifies itself as version 5.14 6/20/2008, Core version 6.0.
On HP forums apparently a later BIOS update for this PC (believe version 5.16) was notorious for creating "jet engine" noise with the PC Fan...HP no longer has any BIOS available for download on their website for this model.
I am not trying to change from the stock processor (a Phenom 9550 quad core), not sure if i would ever overclock (I would like to undervolt to lower temps/reduce power usage if possible). Currently having issues installing cards in the pci-e slots, that's what started my investigation of the bios.
I am trying to figure out if
1) the bios posted for DL on this thread should work with my setup?
2) since the one listed here is unlocked v5.10 and the one i have is severely locked down (courtesy of HP) v5.14, which one is "better"?
3) would updating and/or unlocking the BIOS potentially help with pci-e compatibility issues (specifically: video card)?
Even though this PC is several years old, getting it up to snuff would be a big upgrade for me, as my current main pc is several-several years old
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!
