I just did. Installation was successful but the bios didn't change at all. Was the same as before  Undecided

Hi - please could you post a link to update this IPIEL LA3 motherboard with a bios that includes the xeon microcode? Also do you know if there are any 771 xeon chips that are not compatible / or do not run correctly. Am looking to install a Xeon L5420. Thanks

Reviving this thread because I have the same problem.

I have installed a xeon X5450, SLBBE, E0 stepping, cpuid=1067a, in a HP 3120 SFF box, pegatron APIEL-LA3 mobo, intel G43 chipset. CPU runs ok, win 7 installed ok, but the fan is going full blast all the time, doesn't idle (a core-2 quad Q8300 I tried however was fine).
The bios is AMI - not the same one as the OP, sp50660.exe ver 6.07. This comes in an exe package containing UCORESYS.SYS, UCOREVXD, UCOREW64.SYS, afuwin.exe, a .cva file, flash.bat and a vxd file as well as the main bios file EU36.07. I extracted the exe using 7-zip to add this cpuid = 1067a microcode

cpu0001067a_plat00000044_ver00000a0b_date20100928.bin

(I also updated the 775 core-2 microcode) to the main bios file EU36.07, which I had to temporarily rename to .rom, using mmtool (following the tutorial on delidded.com).

I then created a DOS bootable usb drive using RUFUS, put on the modded bios and AMI flash tool AFUDOS.exe. Although this PC's BIOS setup doesn’t have usb listed as a boot device, in practice once the usb is plugged in it is detected and pressing ESC on boot goes to a boot choice recovery screen where the USB is listed.
The command
AFUDOS.exe /p /b /c /n /x
(see: http://www.ecs.com.tw/extra/flashutl/afuusb.pdf )
then flashed the bios successfully.
Reboot success into windows 7. Fan nice and quiet! Things seemed a bit slow initially, however CPU-Z reported the cpu running correctly at 3GHz, and a test using adobe DNG converter gave same results as before for conversion of a folder full of pics – 9 secs.
Date however had reverted to 2002.

So it's looking like I have had more success than the OP. What else should I check...??

Hi D-B appreciate your input.

Anyway I SPOKE TOO SOON..
Windows is running slow. Slow to boot and slow in action. CPU shows 3GHz in CPU-Z and benchmarks looked ballpark right. The problem is windows...
I made the mistake of letting windows update do its thing. Started downloading loads of updates, security fixes for .NET etc not sure why, win 7 was posted as up to date only 3 days ago. Anyway took ages. Then the restart failed - i left it overnight but it was still hung up next am. reboot failed. Didn't want to mess with this so reinstalled the win 7 from image using macrium. But I had to take the drive out: winPE from cd wouldn't behave either! Linux wsa fine but that old macrium recovery disk wouldn't see the image.
So back to square 1. I would like to try bios install from the package, in windows. i have an idea that some settings are not being set (like date) using AFUDOS from usb drive. But I don't know how to repackage the files into an autorun exe - can you help?
I'll try that ver 6.09 bios you linked to to see if it makes any difference.

One other thought: I noticed a couple of comments posted on delidded from a guy with another pegatron mobo - IPMEL-AE motherboard with G41 chip. He was also having problems but then posted:
" it finaly worked. I just needed to disable intel C-State. I didn’t do it before because my BIOS doesn’t show that option by default and i thougt that it didn’t have it. After some reserarch i found out that in some HP computers like mine, you can enter in a “advanced” BIOS by pressing ctrl+F10 and then ctrl+F11. Once i disable intel C-State the processor worked fine."
Is that the issue?
Note that the bios on this pc/mobo is very limited, very few options are accessible to change.

Darn ...now it's hanging up at "starting windows"...

Flashed from usb as before, updated 6.09 bios, unmodded. Back into windows no prob, fast. Fan going full blast again. Reflashed from in windows just in case...made no difference.
cpu-z bm's: 270 single core; 1061 multi. Looks correct in comparison to 3.16GHz dual core bm's - v slightly slower single, ~twice as fast multi.

Gues I'll try introducing the 771 microcode and try it...

Try to flash my mod.
After flashing do Load Setup Defaults in BIOS. Save and reboot.
Than go to BIOS again and enable Virtualization Technology. Save and reboot in Windows.
