A7N8X-LA by HP BIOS unlock
#31
TheWiz and I talked about this mod, and you need to flash the asus rom before we can move forward. the chances of failure are nil. bad news is you might have to sacrifice firewire if you want advanced features. unless you can find another asus rom that is similar with firewire.

@MrTangoWhisky: hope you'll find one Smile
@f3bandit: can't wait the unlock hehe, I'm sure that you will be able to do it Smile (B-M 4 ever Big Grin)

Well Like I posted for the requester TheWiz And I were discussing this mod and yeas it is physically possible to inject the fire wire module, but if the hook and calls in the rest of the bios firware are not set up to interact with it. It might not be much use either way. But ThWiz stated we really can't move forward till one of you flash the asus rom to the board and then we can go from there! Big Grin
please report back soon with your findings! Big Grin

In deed you need to inject the firewire-module of a "-e deluxe" into the "-vm"-BIOS and maybe (when the existing hook in the "-vm"-BIOS doesn't work) even have to replace the "-vm"-bios.rom with the "-la"one... Everything understood? Wink
I'll keep you informed when my experience goes on...

If you replaced the -vm with the -la bios.rom I don't think you would be able to have a successful flash, unless someone ran a diff on bios.rom and pointed our differences.

my knowledge 'bout AMI-BIOSes is not enough to declare in english, what I wanna say. f3bandit did a diff between the -la and the -vm and they are 98% the same bios! And I did is for the -vm and the -e deluxe. The only big difference between the -la and the -vm is the missing firewire module, even the hook is there in the -vm bios to run it. but I don't know if it is activated so we possibly have to do this to get the firewiremodule to work on the -vm-bios... hope I cleard the situation. Wink

the BIOS of the A7N8X-X is partially working but not so stable... I just burnt an Athlon XP 3000+!

I just bought this board with an AMD 2600+ on it for $30 on craigslist. Actually, it was the entire computer I bought but the guy had pulled it from the HP and put it in a custom build so I was not aware that it was an HP when I bought it.

In any case, like the others replying to this thread, I am very interested in a bios that will allow me to overclock this chip. Actually, I would be thankful if you could just mod it to get rid of that stupid HP logo POST screen. But I digress.

I read the entire thread and was a bit confused. I don't really care about the firewire. Do either of those bios roms posted earlier in this thread allow for more control? It sounded as though they were just the same as the bios I already have installed but the posts were a bit confusing to a novice overclocker like me.

And what is status of the bios modifications? Are you guys still working on this? Or did things come to a halt when MrTangoWhiskey burnt out his 3000+ CPU?

It's kind of odd that this board is like 6 years old but the thread about modifying the bios is current. But I am grateful that it is current. Thanks.

This is easily acheived , just post a request in our Custom Splash Screen REquests section along with the image you would like instead as your splash screen and we will get back to you Smile
