Dell Inspiron i3543 UEFI Recovery
#1
One my friends with a Broadwell (so Aptio V) Dell Inspiron i3543 laptop tried to mod his BIOS, but after flashing, it rebooted with no video input internally or externally. I'm assuming the BIOS is probably corrupted and failed to flash properly. I know the laptop has an AMI Aptio UEFI BIOS; does anyone know the recovery procedure for this? He tried inserting a FAT32 flash drive with the original ROM and HDR files (extracted from the Dell EXE using the /writeromfile and /writehdrfile flags), and can see read activity occuring on the drive, but no flashing occurs. It seems like it's reading in a cycle looking for the proper file to flash, but can't find it, which is why it stays trying to read (it tries to read for a few seconds, stops, then tries to read again). Does anyone know what the files should be named?

Edit: He hardware flashed it (SOIC) with the ROM file generated by /writeromfile. It worked fine.

I don't know of the correct UEFI recovery procedure. My friend just HW flashed it. You can get the ROM file (to hardware flash) (if you didn't make a backup) by downloading the latest BIOS (EXE) from Dell and running it with the /writeromfile argument. This will give you a ROM that you can flash. Note that using the generic ROM will (obviously) remove any specific identifiers and Windows product keys, etc. (this is why you make a backup before flashing!)

Like I said, you need to download the BIOS update (EXE) from Dell's support site and extract the ROM (using the /writeromfile argument). I don't know any command to enter UEFI recovery in this laptop; again, my friend hardware flashed it with an SOIC clip.

Hi, I also bricked my Inspiron 3543 in attempt to unlock the DMVT settings sadly. I have been looking at hardware EEPROM programmers and was not sure which ones would be compatible with the 3543. I was thinking of buying a MiniPro TL866, but I wanted to ask if you know what your friend used to flash the BIOS just to make sure.

Thanks.

hi
it is "uefi with oprom support "  firmware working fine now on dell inspiron 3543 , the vendor flashed my bios with this one , it is without windows key but is stable and working fine with my laptop.
