bios update request for G31T-M2 to support Q9650 CPU
#1
Hi all,

I've tried to get a Q9650 CPU in a G31T-M2 (OEM bios for FTS) working. Even the POST runs succesfully my windows wasn't booting anymore.
Flashed my board with the original ESC G31T-M bios and than it worked but the CPU fan runs at full speed (no rpm detected).
Additionally the internal beeper didn't work anymore, also the IEE 1394 showed a exclamation mark in the windows device manager.

Is here any guru who could change the G31T-M2 to get an Q9650 CPU working in it and could addionally  activate the overclocking function ?

Or oherwise get the G31T-M bios fully working in a G31T-M2 board ?

I hope somebody can help me.

Hi~~firend.
About your question with G31T-M2,i don't know inject micro code if it can solve your question, but i still help you out to modify bios file.
I download bios file from below link and i extract a rom file. Please confirm it is right for your mainboard at first.
http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Download/S...088601C140

Here is my modification link.

Using afudos or afuwin to flash bios you need,or maybe you can use g31t-m's bios update tool from ecs's website to flash,it seems contain afudos and afuwin utility.

Hi Feng,

thank you so mutch for your fast response and willingness helping me, highly apprciated!

I can confirm that my original bios is the one of your link.
Right now I flashed successful your modification. The overclocking function is still not seen.

I'll change now my Q6600 cpu with the new Q9650 cpu and hope it will work.

As soon I have the result i'll let you know

Hi Feng,

replaced my cpu now with the Q9650 cpu to test your modification.

The Bios detects the CPU correct with Q9650 @ 3.00 GHz (that was with the original bios different) but the POST stops/hang immediately after
the memory initalization. The last line on the screen shows the amount of ram.

Hello Feng,

thanks again for your help.

Your last modification shows the same symptons. With the Q9650 cpu installed, the system hung in POST. This tine I'm not sure at which state
as I have overseen to switch of the quit mode.

Maybe it would help to compare the cpu part of the FTS bios 3.04 with the ESC bios 10/02/25 10/02/25 .

As I wrote the 9650 cpu worked fine with the ESC bios also a overclocking function is included but some other functions of the mainboard did not.

Best regards

Did you try BIOS from Acer Aspire G3730 with G31T-M5 motherboard? Or from Lenovo M57e with G31T-LM. They look like yours.

Hi Deathbringer,

no haven't as I guess it is to risky to brick the board.

The FTS board G31T-M2 is the OEM version of the G31T-M board with slightly modifications.
Both board are manufactured by ESC.

I've analyzed your native BIOS(3.04) for microcodes:

Hi DeathBringer,

thank you for you support!

Tried your modification right now, unfortuneteley I see the same symptoms as before. The Q9650 cpu is in POST correctly detecte but,
after the memory initialization (last line is showing the amount of  memory installed) the bios hung. Clearing the cmos didn't helped.
Reinstalled my old Q6600 cpu and all works fine as before . I'm sure that the Q9650 is OK as I have tested it already in my board with the ESC bios for G31T-M.

Best regards
Wolfgang
