totally your Firmware modifying the Descriptor Region, just some bytes :

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2...ity/page-2

So open by HexEditor your Firmware Eeprom Chip file (the W25Q64BV.bin)
go to offset 0x000060h and change the following bytes according to
00 00 FF FF 00 00 FF FF 18 01 FF FF

After this modify You will able to access to any Firmware Region using Intel FPTw (FPTw64) without
a SPI PGM !
Just remember that any Bios Update will rewrite back locked version vanishing thi mod !
Reagrds

P.S. Dedicated to some. . . O. . . ne who continuosly applied CodeRush Discoveries without say THANKS Wink
Every time I "read" I get a completely empty output. Any tips?

Hello Friends!

I have Thinkpad S230U 3347-6UU and I want to install unlisted 3g modem.

Please let me know if I do right:
1. made dump of rom bios with FPT software: rom file size 4 194 304 bytes;
2. unpacked this dump with PhoenixTools2.52. Checked "allow user to change modules" and "No SLIC"
3. found module with string "1802:...", found whitelist in this module with hex editor, and changed PID/VID of listed modem (Ericsson, OBDB:1926) to the PID|VID of modem that I want to install (Sierra GOBI3000, 1199:9013). Whitelist is placed in ROM module 2 times, so I changed OBDB:1926 to 1199:9013 also two times.
4. packed modules back with PhoenixTools2.52, received bios rom the same size 4 194 304 bytes.
5. ordered USB flashing tool with clips (the same as linked in this topic) to flash without soldering (now waiting for delivery).

the main question i dont understand: I byte-to-byte compared initial rom dump with changed rom dump after packing, and found that they differ in some places, and amount of that differences are quite more than I changed 16 symbols of PID/VID. Is it normal?

while i'm waiting for flashing tool, i want to make sure that i do right thing Smile

I dont have wide expirience in decompilation, and so am afraid to remove whitelist checking completely by changing logic in rom module.
I hope writing my modem (GOBI3000) to the whitelist is quite enough solution for me.

Thank You!
p.s. sorry for my terrible English )
