Help! Failed BIOS update
#1
Hi

This evening I attempted to update the BIOS on my Dell Vostro 3500 using the latest version of the BIOS from the Dell support website. I did this because Windows keeps reminding me that I ought to be updating to Windows 10, and I read that attempting this without updating the BIOS to the latest version could cause problems. I now realise that this was a daft thing to do as the BIOS installed on the laptop was version A01 and the latest was A12. I guess a lot has happened in between times! The instructions said to just download the file and let it run, which it did.... right upto 56% complete where the machine froze and wouldn't respond to anything. I had to remove the battery in the end to power it off. Now when I power it on the fan comes on but nothing else.

Does anyone know of a way to recover from this?

Thanks in advance

Hi mate,
This laptop has an AMI Aptio Bios and Recovery Bios is not discussed !
You can try this Procedure . . .

. Prepare an USB Stick FAT32 Formatted
. Download and extract these Recovery Files and copy into USB Stick
. Remove the battery and AC power from the dead computer
. Insert the flash drive into the dead computer's USB port
. Hold down the "END" key (Right arrow) and then connect the AC power
. Wait laptop reads USB flash leave the Keys off and wait the flash
. Allow the update to finish and then reboot.
. Computer is now working normally.

Let me know
Regards

P.S. If It will not start try to press and hold "FN" and "END" Keys, not only "END" key !!!

Thanks for the help, but looks like this one might be a lost cause. I followed your instructions and also tried a few other cominations of key presses when adding power but each time the fan started up but nothing else. At no point did the light on the USB stick come on so looks like it isn't being read.
