[REQUEST] Lenovo B590 CPU upgrade to i7
#1
Hello all,

I tried installing an Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU (spec code QC0R) to my Lenovo B590 62742BG laptop, but it wouldn't boot. I double checked everything, but as soon as I inserted my old i5-3210M CPU everything started working again.

According to this list, my chipset (Intel HM77 Express) should support the i7-3610QM CPU: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chi...press.html

However, according to my laptop's hardware maintenance manual, only the following CPUs are suported:

(extracted from https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobil...hmm_en.pdf, page 85)

Is it possible to add support for the Intel Core i7-3610QM (spec code QC0R) in the BIOS somehow?

Here's a backup made using Universal Backup Tookit 2.0: http://rghost.net/8htTr6m4V

BIOS version: H1ET69WW (1.12)
BIOS date: 2012-11-15
Controller version: H1EC31WW (1.11)
Model: 62742BG

Thanks in advance!

This BIOS from the Lenovo IdeaPad Y480 could be a good donor BIOS: http://rghost.net/67cYnzqFh

According to the service manual for the Y480, the i7-3610QM is supported for them:

Regarding the CPU spec number, I found this on cpu-world:

Mine has QC0R written on the CPU.

QC0R is engineering sample. So working isn't guaranteed. What CPUID it has?

Try to reset CMOS and to boot your QC0R without laptop's battery.

Thanks! I will try that later.

How can I get the CPUID if I can't boot with that CPU?

Try to contact the seller. He should send a proof of working. For example, screenshot of CPU-Z.

Ok, I asked the seller for the screenshot. In the meantime, I found this on CPU-World:

It's screenshot of QC27, not QC0R.

I know, it's the closest thing I could find Tongue
