Yes, you're right-bios chip is rewrite protected and bios mod cannot be flashed using Intel FPT.
However, i'll try to patch WinFlash so you can use it to flash mod.
I saw patched Winflash for x220 and it is would be great do this for your laptop
Just save bios pack from Lenovo site and unpack it.

Bad news!Unfortunately i didnt found locked bits how to flash using WinFlash application.
So, as i said before, i can help you to get bios with disabled whitelist checking at first.
Upload here your saved dumps so i can modify it.

That is unfortunate. But I am pretty sure that the hardware prevents modded BIOS flashing. You can also use dos flashers or other tools, none of which will work on T/W/X*30 Thinkpads.

You really need a hardware programmer. But thanks for trying!

I am trying, but it seems my programmer is broken. I am getting random different bit errors every time I try to read the chip. I will let you know once I fixed this.

I finally managed to read the ROM. Here it is:

I had to unsolder the chip for it to read correctly. I do not want to solder it back and off again very often. Could you please do both requests? I will give you a donation if it works

Unfornunately second request can take too many time for unlocking.
However, i can unlock Advanced tab so you can find needed option or more useful things.
We are using Swapping Method so one of unuseful tabs wll be replaced to Advanced.
As default, our choice is Date/Time tab but you can choose another.
If you are agree just post screenshot of your bios setup menu!
