After a lot of searching, reading, trial and error etc I finally gave up and resorted to opening a new thread..
What I want to accomplish is to disable the onboard lan of my Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R (rev2.1) at the default bios settings.*
- I have tried all the versions of ModBin6 I could find and while they open the bios (by drag&drop or adding .bin extension) and let me make the desired change the file that it produces when I save is 1025 KB instead of 1024 and it can't be opened again by the same program.
- I also tried Award bios editor. When I load the file it tells me that the image does not appear to be a valid award bios but it goes on to load it. Here I can also change the desired property (strange thing: one of the downloaded builds of this program messes with the text in the options names another does not do that, both say they are version 1). But once again the files saved can't be re-opened so I didn't try to flash any of them.
So is there another way to do this, even with a hex editor?
* I need to do this because the LAN chip (Realtek 8111B) failed which is causing the system to restart when it tries to initialize it (so I can't get past the post screen) and at the same time the option to disable it from the bios has disappeared !! This video of the same kind of failure shows that once the lan is disabled the system can boot just fine.
I'm keeping hope alive, until your answers arrive at least !
