so, I have this to share as it might help fix the two setting brightness issue.
soooo, messing around with my z500 I was fustrated by the only two brightness settings. So i decided to put the old 1366x768 back in. I did.. I didnt fully put the computer back together. I turned on the laptop with the old display and brightness settings was fully restored, all 10 seetings worked with the old original display.
Now, while the pc was booted to windows with the original display and brightness settings fully working I dicided to put the machine back together. However, I didnt turn it off I simply put it to sleep.
So the laptop was in sleep mode, then I changed the display back to the FHD new display just for kicks. Guess what?? when the computer returned from sleep the screen properly adjusted to 1920x1080, but the brightness settings worked!! all 10 steps were available with the new FHD display!!! I played with it for an hour and brightness settings fully worked.. unil I restarted lol
my conclusion, bios checks at startup something about the display and then handsoff to OS. If the bios checks clear then the 10 brightness settings are avaible to OS no matter what display it has. The problem is with the BIOS
my two cents.
