[REQ] Unlock Intel's list of approved processors on DQ77KB
#1
In BIOS 0038 the DQ77KB used to support a much larger range of processors such as the I7 3770K and pretty much any Ivy Bridge.

However in recent BIOS updates Intel has trimmed the list of supported processors to just a handful and processors that used to work fine with this board now display a message stating that you visit should processormatch.intel.com.

Anyone know how to undo Intel's trimmed supported processors list on the DQ77KB bioses 0042-0045

I just ran into this issue as well. New BIOS is needed for these boards to address NIC issues. Is it possible to add support for other CPUs in the latest rev BIOS? Thank you.

Last BIOS that supported most CPUs; http://downloadmirror.intel.com/21313/eng/KB0038.BIO

Question
Back when Intel first released their Thin-ITX motherboards, they released them with wide-ranging CPU support.

A BIOS update later and all processors over a 65w TDP were disabled. For a variety of reasons this 'upgrade' has caused untold headaches for myself alongside a number of others. The offending motherboard in question is the DQ77KB. While my desired CPU addition is the 3570k (just 8w TDP increase), many others have different CPU's, all which were once supported.

Please help. Any support or even info on how to tackle this myself would be GREATLY appreciated. Many desirable updates have been included in the more recent BIOS's:

Old BIOS with CPU support:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloa...duct=59046

New BIOS with CPU support removed:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloa...duct=59046

Come ooooon internet.....please gimme some love...
..or the chicken gets it.

Why you don't use old BIOS?
What happens with new BIOS & i5-3570K? Show a photo of the error,
Note that 77-65=12, not 8

G'day there, thanks for the response. Sorry for the late reply. Yes, the maths - I got the TDP wrong Wink

On anything but BIOS 038 (oldest), the screen comes up blank with 'DOS' based text saying:

"Warning: An unsupported CPU has been detected blah blah blah
your computer will shut down in X seconds for protection"   Dodgy

Then it shuts down.

A photo of the error is seriously troublesome because I would have to upgrade the BIOS to get the photo, then downgrade the BIOS to recover my computer - and I fear losing my motherboard-based RAID0 in the process.......

I am having a few difficult and strange problems - like WIndows Update has never worked and two USB ports are acting strange. Also it appears PCIE 3.0 is not enabling. I am looking at just throwing it in and downgrading CPU's to one they support - but even under a stress-test I could not top 60 celsius NOR make the CPU use more than 55w - so otherwise it is comfortable.

I would happily PAY for the BIOS if such a thing were allowed or even legal. A truly frustrating 'disablement' by a company.

In most cases Intel's BIOS are unmodable.
I'll try to find the solution.

I AM using old BIOS - but it is not so good!!!!! Strange problems - also the latest BIOS is only a year old - after 48 upgrade versions through 3.5 years!

Any help would be...amazzing. This custom production PC is used for complicated music and lighting control in a non-profit environment!

Rated! Wink

Edit: One of the main reasons the BIOS update is needed is to get the PCIe to work at v3.0 - for some reason it is not, but all the hardware supports it. We need it to get a Thunderbolt connection to the board. It could also explain problems we are having with an eDP LCD etc etc And when I say complicated I mean DMX, MIDI, OSC alongside synthesis etc

I did provide a pic of the internals with the board and a chicken. So there is that, too.

I've found module GUID {B4B58ABE-FD77-4CB1-8C9F-7AECBAB06D02} with an error:
Quote:Warning: An unsupported processor was detected and the Desktop Board will shut down automatically to prevent damage. Please refer to http://processormatch.intel.com for a list of supported processors for your Desktop Board.

I've analysed NVRAM values. Bad news - no values for TDP.
