Hello!
If you are successed to make dump using Programmer,just upload it!
I need full firmware because it contains Descriptor region with read/write permissions.
Dumps from Intel FPT,universal backup tool and SPI PGM are not same.

Actually I already dumped the BIOS with SPI programmer. The link is in the previous post.

Da Vinci, hi. Thank you for your hard work. Unfortunately the BIOS mod didn't work for me. When I flashed it with SPI programmer, and started the laptop, 

1. Laptop turned on, keyboard light turned on, fan and HDD turned on. But screen remained black
2. In around 2 seconds the laptop turned off
3. I started the laptop again, the keyboard light turned on, fan and HDD turned on, but screen remained black
4. It remained like this - no "Lenovo" logo on screen - nothing. I turned it off with 5-second press on power button. 

I tried flashing original BIOS and my laptop came back to life.

Then i tried flashing modded BIOS again - same result - dead laptop.

So i flashed back the original BIOS file, and my laptop is working with original BIOS

A kind forum member called DuDu2002 has replied to my post and has sent me PMs, but is insisting that I use the SPI programmer to take the ROM backups. I might be blind, but from Exotico's guide post above, it appears that he used the backup tools, same as I did and that was acceptable for modding?

While I have the SPI programmer etc, I haven't set them up yet and ideally am hoping to just use them for the flashing part if possible. Any info gratefully received!

Hi!

1. Are the ROM backups for each individual machine mentioned above needed for modification, are they unique somehow or can just the manufacturer-released ROM update files be provided to then be modded? Not paranoid at all or anything like that, just unsure...

As i understood, you will need a individual mod for each laptops. All newer laptops have unique keys for Windows licensing and stuff like that, which means that a mod for each one is required.

2. If backups do indeed need to be taken, if someone can link me to the Insyde backup utility etc used I would really appreciate it as I failed at basic searching on here it seems, apologies again.... /EDIT - I have located the two backup tools and have run them on the i7, will run them on the i5 when I can get to it later today

I did try using multiple programs, but after some tries with the simple ones (and modded versions) i did go with the CH341A programmer-software. I simply started a "Read"-task in the program, and provided that file to the modding-guys (Thanks again! <3)

You should be able to find that software in my small walk-through with pictures.

I can't recommend any other solutions, simply cause i didn't succes that way.

3. Once I provide these files, if someone on here would be able to modify them in order for me to use the Intel 3165NGW cards (Lenovo FRU 00JT497), that would be amazing. I have seen donations mentioned and if wanted, please point me to the guidelines regarding this and I am happy to do so!

I will recommend you to make all the backups (Read), and simply uploading them to mega or a similar service.

Tell them what you need to get fixed (Wel... Wifi whitelist and BIOS-feature unlock?) and try to provide the same info as i did at the first page.

If you really need that modded bios, consider to put in a small amount of money :-) They're really good to their stuff, and i guess by donating a cup of coffee the chances will raise to a new level.

Thanks for your reply, that confirmation was exactly what I was hoping for, as it was your thread here that sent me down this route . I won't be able to tinker with the SPI programmer until Thursday or Friday to do the dumps, but will do so!

No problem at all with donations, it is only fair after all

Well, not if you ask me - but I've never been very interested in OC and stuff like that :-)

As a site note, I sold my Lenovo Yoga 2 13 a few months ago, cause i moved to the business series. So now I'm very happy with my X260 - but let me know, if you have any questions. Promptly I have a few answers left in my memory!

Thanks again for your help. I have updated the request thread with the various details. It took a bit of trial & error using the programmer and I found that it was easier to build a machine with Windows XP to get it working, but all done now so hopefully somebody will be able to help!

No problem :-) I also used a WinXP machine the first times, but went for Win7 with no issues the last time i modded the laptop.
