[Request] HP compaq 6530b quadcore support
#1
Hello, I'm new to this forum, so sorry if I'm a bit dumb about some things.

I have this older laptop, HP compaq 6530b, it has a Core 2 Duo T9600 out of the factory, top of the line model if I remember correctly.
I really like the laptop, so I thought I would expand the life of it, and bought a Core 2 Quad q9100 it, dumb me, thinking since it's the same socket, it should work properly.
So I go about inserting it, all fine, try to turn on, nothing happens, fans turn on, and some lights, but black screen, and turns off after like 5 seconds, try re-seating the cpu, nothing, put back the t9600, works, so I guess q9100 isn't supported natively.

What are my options here, a modded bios to allow the cpu, and I'm not sure if the laptop supports it still, as the cpu seems to be just 2 t9600's on one die, so maybe power limit is exceeded.

Current BIOS version is 68PDD Ver. F.20.

Mainboard info: Hewlett-Packard 30DD

Thanks in advance!

This notebook support all dual-core CPU for Socket P. Quad-core CPU aren't supported.
But you can try the motherboard's mod for quad core CPU supporting (without guarantee for success):

What is the source of that claim, I'm just curious.
That thread you linked, they talk about adding 1066 support, but the cpu that came with 6530b(T9600), that is a 1066 cpu.

In that thread complex problem was solved. Adding FSB=1066MHz is second step, but supporting quad cores CPU is third.
Quote:Besides this, a core 2 quad has some more signals that seem to be used for testing when designing motherboards for this CPU and are not needed for normal operation. But some of the pins with these signals on a quad are connected to VCC or VSS on dual cores, so we have to insulate them on our quad core when inserting it in a mainboard made only for dual cores.
These are D8, AA7, AA8, AC8 and AE8.
