Asus Rampage III Gene OROM Mod

the new firmware does not make the Marvel chip any faster.  The Marvell SATA3 is a first gen chip and falls short when working with faster SSD drives.  But for standard platter/rotational drives, the Marvel chip is plenty fast.  I personally get better benchmarks on my WD Black drives via the Marvell controller over the Intel. For SSD, yes.. you are better off using the Intel SATA2 ports.

Yeah I didn't think it would due to the 1x PCI-e lane, I didn't know about the platter drive though so might be moving my HDD over onto that controller.

I took pity on you R3G owners and created an updated BIOS from ZioMod S10.

thank you pir8man for bios update, currently don't have any 1366 cpu
have been tried to sell pc in parts but have still R3G and now when X58 is not dead platform have been ordered X5690.
Hope it will work. Regards

The X56xx brothers have QPI path enabled to talk to 2nd cpu. Which is useless on this board, the W36xx lineup is cheaper and better suited. I just installed W3680 on my R3E and it's a dream! I highly recommend the XEON W3670 or W3680 for these boards. Both are great bang for the buck and overclock well.

I have got W3690 for my R3G and have tested it with lastest bios update.
It seems that it work perfect!
thank you pir8man

I really appreciate this forum! great work! i'm at the moment using the ZioMod 1003_S10 bios version on my Rampage III Gene, and it works smoothly!! Smile
I'm just wondering if there any chance to get bluetooth (from usb dongle or pcie board) working on post, to access bios with wireless keyboard, through a bios mod... please don't get angry is i've said a kind of bullsh1t.. i'm not an expert at all! Big Grin

I took pity on you R3G owners and created an updated BIOS from ZioMod S10.

S18 with new Intel ICH10R SATA RAID Controller: v13.5.0.2164
    Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller - Bios : v1.0.0.1038
    Intel 82567V-2 Gigabit Network: v1.5.43

* S18T file has TRIM support for SSD RAID0 users.  SSD TRIM for AHCI is supported under both versions.

** I cannot test these as I have a different MOBO.  Please PM me for any assistance.
I am using the S18T rom and everything seems to be running well. The one issue i am having is CPU Z does not recognize the processor I am using. I am using a Xeon X5687 (4c/8t 3.6) CPU Z reads is up as Intel Xeon X 000 @ 3.6, is this fixable with a microcode update?

That has nothing to do with the Board or BIOS version.  That is because you are running an ES (Engineering Sample) CPU.  These always appear as ID 000, so that they are not confused with retail versions of the same processor.  I had the same on my i7-965 (ES), the problem disappeared when I upgraded to a retail XEON CPU.

s18t version with updated cpu microcode. No changes at all, but if someone wants to flash, you have a chance right now.

2d performance booster should be disabled in the bios.
