[REQUEST] Acer Aspire E5-521(G) BIOS Unlock
#31
The recovery name is "Z5WAEX64.fd".

Original BIOS 1.04: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4NHIB...GpvX1NtNU0
BIOS to test if modded BIOS can be flashed using recovery: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4NHIB...1lrZXlQQ2c

The original BIOS already has the right name for BIOS recovery. You need to rename the Test-BIOS before using it for recovery.

Recovery procedure:
1. Copy the BIOS file to an empty and with FAT16/32 formatted usb stick.
2. Unplug the AC adapter.
3. Remove the battery of the notebook (skip this step in case you can't remove the battery).
4. Plug in the USB flash disk.
5. Press and hold < Fn > and < Esc >, and then plug in the AC adapter while still holding < Fn > and < Esc >.
6. Press the Power button. You can now stop holding < Fn > and < Esc >.
7. The BIOS flash should now begin, the fans will spin up and the power led will light up. It will take a while and the notebook will shut down after the flashing process is finished.

First try to flash the original BIOS that way and if that was successful, use the Test-BIOS after that.
If flashing the Test-BIOS worked (the BIOS-version should be shown as 1.04a in the BIOS), a modded BIOS can be flashed using the recovery procedure. In that case, another modder should be able to help you with unlocking the BIOS.

Otherwise, you might be able to change some settings this way (needs to be adapted): http://www.geektech.co.nz/how-to-unlock-...enovo-y700

Hi, how can I unlock the advanced settings in this BIOS? It's an AMD A8-6410 APU with an R5 M240 2GB dGPU. I have an SPI programmer btw.

I was not able to read the bios chip with a CH341a. It is a cFeon QH64-104HIP, the software couldn't auto-detect it an there isn't anything similar to QH64, only Q64.
Anyone ever tried to read this bios chip?

Hi,
my notebook (Acer Aspire E5-572G) has the same chip and I was able to read it with the CH341A programmer successfully.
The setting for the EN25Q64 worked as the chips are very similar.
A recent version of the software is here: https://tosiek.pl/ch341-eeprom-and-spi-f...rogrammer/
Used version 1.29 myself, old versions might have problems with this chip.

I have an Acer E5-521-8948 with the A8-6410APU

I am not 100% sure if AMD-V is enable correctly.

I don't see it as a menu item in the BIOS, but, I do see that systeminfo reports:

Hyper-V Requirements:
- VM Monitor Mode Extensions: Yes
- Virtualization Enabled In Firmrware: Yes
- Second Level Address Translation: Yes
- Data Execution Prevention Available: Yes

I want to reformat it and install Ubuntu 18.04LTS and use VirtualBox instead.

If I am going to flash a custom bios, I would rather do it now with Win10 installed then go through the process of installing Ubuntu, finding it is not working, and then have to re-install Win10 (all over again).

Here is the current 1.04: Acer 1.04 insyde update
